What file system is each using. If XP is using NTFS and 98 is using FAT 32 then they will not be able to read the other file system. One way to get around it is to have XP setup as FAT 32. This may not be your problem, or there may be other ways to fix it, but it is just a guess.

If the Shared files are on an XP Hard drive formated as NTFS, Win98 cannot read it.

You need to store your shared files on a drive formated as Fat or Fat32.

The best way to do this is to temporarily install a blank drive in your Win98 computer and format it as Fat or Fat32

Remove it from your Win98 computer and install it in the Xp computer. Set it up as your shared drive folders.

You will be able to see the shared files with both computers.

You will be able to save to, write to, Move, Delete files and folders on the shared drive from bothe computers.

Drawback: No security on the Fat/Fat32 drive.
