local area connection a network cable is unplugged..

it says that at the bottom of my screen , however i am still able to connect to the intrnet, and all the cables are pugged in correctly and everything is in the right 'ports' or whatever. i am on win xp os and i am connected through a modem from bright house
only every now and then does it say
cannot display webpage

I have been given a laptop and I would like to restore it to factory settings as there is so much junk on there from the previous user.

Unfortunately, there is no booklet or discs with it, just the laptop itself.

Can anyone tell me, step-by-step, how I go about wiping all the junk off it and also how to make it run smoothly once that's done?

it keeps saying that there is no input and then it goes to sleep. Is there anything i can do make it turn on. I'm going crazy here.

It came back as to large and cancelled. We now have 0% space on our D drive I already deleted the back up file. And used system recovery, still no space. I tried to defragment it will not let me because you have to have at least 15% space to defragment. When I analze defragment on the right side there is a solid block of red what does this mean? Have a messed up my computer beyond repair.Whenever I try to go to my D drive files I get a PC Angel thing that tells the files can not be altered, I am at a lose.

I have a 4 year old external hard drive that just started acting up. When I start it up, Windows XP appears to recognize it and sometimes I can see it in "Disk Management." However I can not get on the hard drive as "My Computer" doesn't show it as a drive and I can't locate it by entering it in the search bar of Windows Explorer. Once in maybe every 20 tries it will work, but only for a couple minutes. It sounds like it's running ok, but it rarely shows up as a drive in "My Computer." I'm wondering if my computer or the hard drive has a virus. Or maybe the hard drive is dieing. I have tried adding it as a slave drive in a desktop computer with the same results. Any ideas?

I regularly use the free versions of AVG antivirus, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Lavasoft Adaware.

How do I remove the searched items on my computer? When I go under aol or any category and search for any topic it remains on the search screen. Example is I search for "apple" when I search for a or anything else you can see that I have searched for apple in the past. Does anyone know whether or not it is possible to burn a powerpoint onto a DVD? I am making a family video for my family for christmas, and before I went any farther I wanted to make sure we could watch it on tv, without the projector and such. my flat mointer is a proview i boght it a year ago. when i try to turn it on it show the welcome screen window , the small window just of one second and then it disapper.i see the power light gree on but the yellow light for stand doesnt show every thing is plug is the mointer the problem because i put another moniter and my computer works. any technichens with a good advice. ohh the warrenten has just expire.

For some reason my computer (HP Notebook) crashed and I had to re-install Windows XP Home Edition on the computer. When the product key screen comes up I enter in the product key and a message comes up saying invalid product key. I called Microsoft and they said that Service Pack one is no longer supported by Microsoft. So now I have a computer that I can not use because the operating system I once had is no longer supported by Microsoft. There has to be a way that I can get the computer back running without spending any money. Or do I have to purchase a whole new operating system?

The orange light stays on when I try to start it up, the monitor works fine but when I try to start the modem the light stays orange and nothing happens? The monitor has a message that reads "self check test the monitor is working properly" But the modem will not start? Do I need a new hard drive? Or could it be I just need a new modem? Everything is plugged in and hooked up properly but I think the modem is dead. The green light never comes on...Any ideas on what the problem may be?

the warranty has been expired..I need a recovery disk...but the hp won't let me have it unless i have credit card/debit card..what if i ask the bestbuy to order it for me so i can buy yet from them? will they?...I can't order the disk because don't have credit or debit.
