If you have a startup disk (bootable CD or diskette), insert it in the proper drive and restart your computer. Before it boots, enter the BIOS setup program and set the drive you have the startup disk into as the primary booting device. Save the settings and restart the computer (if it doesn't restart by itself after closing the BIOS setup program). Wait untill the OS starts and try to access the hard drive that doesn't work normally. If you can and you see your files, back them up (on the other hard drive if you don't have any other option) and format the drive that won't work using a file system your OS accepts.
If the OS was installed on that drive, reinstall it, then restore your files back where they were before.
If you can't access the drive but you are sure that it is properlly installed (both the data and power cables are well connected and, if you have another drive on the same cable, one drive is set as "master" and the other one as "slave"), try using "KillDisk" on it. You will lose any data on the disk, but after that, the hard-drive will behave just like a new hard drive that you need to format. Format it and install an OS (if it was installed on that drive before and/or you want to).
There might be another thing that causes a hard-drive to behave strange: an optical drive (CD or DVD player or writer) installed on the same data cable, even if one is set as "master" and the other one as "slave". Check to see if it's not your case.
If all those fail, replace the hard-drive completly: it's broken. At a service center, they might be able to recover some files you had on that broken drive.

It probable truly is completed. domicile windows takes a sturdy volume area whilst this is put in to set aside for device data. No offense yet you probable want a clean computer. If it purely has 39GB it must be surprisingly previous ... you are able to the two get an exterior no longer person-friendly force and positioned each and all the belongings you do no longer likely choose on there or get a clean computer. every time which you come back that close to to optimal capacity this is going to probable provide you with a warning and it will run truly sluggish and crappy. this is like burning a CD. you are able to probable greater healthful 20 songs on there yet you purely positioned 15 to be on the risk-free component. sturdy good fortune.
