I have been given a laptop and I would like to restore it to factory settings as there is so much junk on there from the previous user.

Unfortunately, there is no booklet or discs with it, just the laptop itself.

Can anyone tell me, step-by-step, how I go about wiping all the junk off it and also how to make it run smoothly once that's done?

It's a Varga Visionary.

Thanks everyone.

I've never heard of a Varga Visionary, but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it. Check the help menu and see if there is a recovery CD wizared. Many companies make you burn your own recovery CD's.

Could you mean TARGA?

They shhould have a support fi=unction where you can do downloads or buy recovery CD;s.

well there my be a system retsore when the computer boots up and that would take it back to factory setting. just hit f10 when you are booting the computer before the xp screen comes up. Also you can do a system restore in windows if it is turned on. go to start all progs, accessories, system tools, system restore, and it will give u a calender. pick the date farthest back and it will restore it to that date. help any?

there may be an option at startup to restore, maybe F10 or F11. If it has a D drive or other drive with system partition it should have an option, check under programs to you may be able to start it from windows
