Whoa! Thanks for all the answers to my question about the cleaning capabilities of Shredder and CCleaner, etc. . I was just curious, there’s nothing really in the files to ‘clean’ that completely. Since we are on this subject, above is a follow-up question is that if something is saved on a flash-drive, it won’t be stored on the laptop’s hard drive. True or false? And, of course, if one replaces the hard drive, then all record is gone. True or false?

OK.. i have windows xp and about 3 wks ago i started getting pop ups. so i added norton spyware. rather i added all protection a person would need but now i get one or more pop ups everytime i turn around and it's driving me crazy and i even tried having more then one program to stop the pop ups and they get through , nothing i do is stopping it......please tell me what's wrong with my computer.....thxs

There's 3 computers in the house all running on xp pro, and there all linked to a router, at the moment only 2 computers that are linked to the network are set to file share. But, 2 days ago my mates brother came round and set everything up so i havnt a clue how to set it all up. I looked intomy net status and then properties, and theres all new things there like: "file and printer sharing for microsoft networks" and "NWlink" and "Qos Packet sheduler" etc...before it was just internet protocool, etc..i just need to connect 1 last computer to the network so that files can be shared and LAN games can happen..PLZ HELP!

I'm referring to the 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI Ethernet card and comparing it to the speed of a USB port.

My friend just had high speed cable internet connected. The only connection they could use to connect the cable modem to the computer was an empty USB port.

I was told my friend should install a PCI Ethernet Card to plug the cable modem into because the ethernet card is much faster than a USB port.

What say you?

How can I determine the speed of his USB port? I don't know if he has a 1.1 or a 2.0 USB. Is there a way to determine the speed?

I know the 2.0 is 400Mbps but how can I see that on his computer? How fast is a 1.1 USB port? How can I see this on his computer?

His computer is a "Dell Dimension, model 4100" and was bought in 2000, but he upgraded from Millenium to Windows XP Home Edition.

Dont know why , my scanner suddently stop working,i using usb epson perfection 3490 scanner on my win 2000 pro,my scanner driver is install properly,and my usb port also ok, i check at devide manager also no problem,but when i want start using scanner, it say "EPSON scan cannot start",WHY??

How do you design a network for a company with this criteria.?

The Requirements from the company
the company will need a website
everyone will require access 2 email at his/her workstations
access 2 d world wide web is required at most workstations
require complete and verifiable security
need at least 10 workstations networked together in a completely secure way
it is important that the network is reliable and money is not a problem
Please cud u tell me how 2 begin on how 2 design d network giving a high level description of d solution & how d solution meets the company's (ABC software) needs,d type of network & wat type of network diagram shud b used. any little info is good

My DVD drive (Samsung) does not appear under My Computer and i am unable to read any kind of disks.
But when tried to boot from one of my live cds of linux, it was working and i successfully booted to the system. And after such a boot i am able to view and read from disks. But after the next restart it is the same thing happening. I tried connecting my IDE cable properly. it didnt help. Help Me PLEASE. (OS: windows Xp professional sp2)

Im buying a wireless router for virgin cable broadband.

Hey all,

I know I will need a converter for the outlet, but will my laptops power supply run on 220v or whatever current they have there? Someone told me that newer laptops (mine is brand new) can handle both 110v American and 220-240v European. So beyond the plug adapter, will I need a current/voltage converter? Thanks.

is it possible to install windows vista without having to reinstall drivers and such? Because I seem to have...misplaced... the recovery dvd that came with my laptop (i know, not good at all). I was really hoping I could upgrade to vista without having messed up speakers, graphics, etc. I've tried Vista on my brother's laptop and was quite impressed by what I saw (not a single freeze I couldnt fix quickly or crashes! yay!!) And ever since I tested my own laptop and found out it was vista premium capable, ive been DYING to upgrade, except for this little (haha) nagging issue.
