I understand the basic concept, but not much more. I have only used dial-up, so I am stumped. I am about to purchase a laptop. If I take it to a place that has a wireless connection (and the laptop is wireless) then how do I get online? (I may not be using correct terms...) Wouldn't I have to get a username and password that works in the place that I am trying to connect at? Or does it just work automatically? How does the laptop know how to get me online at that particular location? Can I still use dial-up if that is my only internet option? How much more expensive is being wireless?

I've had comcast for almost 3 months now and it used to work great (7meg+ speed) until today. The download speed = 600kbps
Upload Speed =1.1mbps. Sometimes it reaches 200kbps. I don't know what the problem is. I have restarted the modem and my router a couple of times but I haven't seen any change. Has this ever happened to you?

I just downloaded iTunes and am a brand new user. I am using a router on my internet right now, and am going off of my roomate's network. iTunes is not connecting to the store and help said that it is because of my router. There is no way I can connect a direct DSL cable to my computer. Is there any way I can get around the router and connect to the store so I can start downloading my music? Same thing goes with Real Player, Windows Media Player and other music downloading services. Thanks!

I want to have a function that divides one number by another and I inputed =QUOTIENT(numerator, denominator), but it says that 46/23 is 2.000 AND if I change 46 to 60, the answer is still 2.000.

How do I fix this rounding error?

(its excel 2007 if that matters)

Hello,
Another of my not so easily answered questions.. How do you get into hardware design? I'm nearly out of highschool and want to figure out if I want to work in the hardware or software aspect of computing. So my question is where would the DIY hardware engineer start out learning? I'm sure there's books but what would you recommend and what would be some cool stuff to start out with?
Thanks

Hello,
I have recently started to get into the actual hardware-driven sciences of computers (what makes them tick). One of the most basic and well known theories of binary. I do have a basic understanding and know that binary is just base 2 numbering (didn't word that too well.. But you get it) and that a computer is limited of the number it may use by the bit size in use (most commonly 32 bits even though 64 bit processing does exist). Why not use trinary or an even higher number base to allow the easy calculation of larger numbers and in turn more data. Would it clog the processor? Is this far from possible and I just need to learn my stuff?
This is probably a real beginners question and most likely not possible but I'd like to know why. Thanks.

I just bought the Norton Interner Security & installed it in all my computers. My two laptops are windows XP and it works great on both with no problems. My PC which is Windows vista, after installing Norton to it, it keeps freezing on me & I will have to restart for the computer to work again.

Any help? why is that happening just to that computer? I recently formatted it & installed the windows vista on it.

I think my computer has a virus or something..

When I press the power button, nothing appears on the monitor screen.
The moniter isn't broken though, the light by the moniter power button lights up still.
The hard drive usually beeps when the computer turns on, and it doesn't do that anymore.

So, basically my computer won't turn on at all. [and if you're wondering, I'm using a laptop at the moment]
Just the power buttons light up..

So, does anyone know a way to fix that? Or would I need someone to come fix it for me?
