If you have Office XP or 2003 versions then you can download a free compatibility pack that will allow you to work with the new xml file formats from 2007.

You need to have a fully patched version of office, then do the compatability pack.

it's the new Microsoft Word document type used by the Microsoft Office 2007 suites. it one of the so called Office XML Formats (e.g. docx for Word, pptx for PowerPoint, xlsx for Excel). these formats have number of improvements from previous formats like for instance, it is automatically compressed so it has smaller file size.
