I just bought the Norton Interner Security & installed it in all my computers. My two laptops are windows XP and it works great on both with no problems. My PC which is Windows vista, after installing Norton to it, it keeps freezing on me & I will have to restart for the computer to work again.

Any help? why is that happening just to that computer? I recently formatted it & installed the windows vista on it.

When installing the security software like Norton. It adds a huge amount of info to your registry. Some files are duplicated and produces errors. Your CPU must search through your registry constantly to establish proper software configuration. If your computer is plagued with registry errors, it will choke and freeze. You should clean your registry to produce more available resources. When you don't have free space your RAM and CPU will not function properly. Hope this helps!

Well, besides the fact that Norton sucks..... Norton has become a large program for computers. Symantec tends to put a lot of junk in with their programming. You get all of these pop ups and additional software that don't seem to do anything.

Don't get me wrong, it will protect your computer. If it doesn't bog it down so much that your computer locks up or shuts down.

Vista too, ouch. Try going to Symantec's website and look for downloads, or patches, for Vista. Depending on what edition of Norton you have it may not work with Vista or you may need to download the patch from their site.

When Vista computers first launched only one of Symantecs programs worked with it. Good luck.

Try checking out Trend Micro'c PC Cillin - great program and computer (and user) friendly.

Older versions of Norton are not compatible with Windows Vista. You need Norton 360 for that.

However, I'd advise you save the money and either get a cheaper or free solution. Norton, in my experience and by reputation, is not one of the better anti-virus programs available. Many go so far as to call it one of the worst, but I try to remain unbiased (even if it did kill my computer a few years back. ;) )

NOD32 is arguably the best anti-virus program available. It is extraordinarily light on system resources and has updates almost hourly. You can check it out at www.eset.com. It is also inexpensive... You can get it from www.newegg.com for $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832114001

There are a bunch of free ones available, too. Here's a list of what I know (excluding Comodo Anti-virus available at www.comodo.com.. My list is a work in progress! :) ) along with their compatibilities. (Comodo is only XP compatible, if I recall...) They're not as good as their paid-for counterparts or NOD32, but they should do the job for you. :) They're in the order in which I recommend them.

Antivirus Programs

*Most antivirus programs have active protection and provide antispyware features

NOTE: You can only safely install one antivirus program on a given computer or you run the serious risk of conflicts, system lockups, and even damage. (I have experienced this.)

Antivir http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-PersonalEdition-Classic/3000-2239_4-10690040.html?tag=lst-0-1 (XP, Vista, no Email protection)

*Special*AOL Virus Shield (has been replaced by a special-edition Mcafee) http://safety.aol.com/isc/BasicSecurity/ (XP, 32 bit Vista, Includes a firewall)

*Bitdefender 10 http://www.bitdefender.com/site/view/Download-Free-Products.html (XP only, no real-time protection)

Feel free to email me (Click on my "100% Canadian" picture and then click on the email button) if you have any questions or you want my whole list (which includes descriptions, anti-malware programs, free scans, as well as maintenance information, and more!... Its a whole guide for securing and maintaining your computer!...Its just too big to fit here)

Hope this helps you!

Oops. Read the Norton box, it may not run under Vista.
