Download driver for your soundcard.

More than likely the device drivers were not installed when Windows was reinstalled (happens all the time). What you need to do is find out what kind of sound card you're using, if it's a PCI sound card you should be able to just look at the card and find the manufacutrer/model #. Then just download/install the drivers. If it's an integrated card, just look on the PC manufacturers web site. If they're hard to find check out www.driverguide.com, you'll have to register but it's free.

Sounds like you are missing the sound driver. Go to the web site of your computer manufacturer, find the support section and see if you can find your model. Most manufacturers offer driver for their products.

Chances are Windows doesn't have the soundcard drivers that you need. Download them from your computer manufacturer's website, or you system board manufacturer's website. Once you download the drivers and install them, you should have your sound back.
