Personally I find these threads and the "advice" from people who have been "riding 20 years" to be scary.

Counter steering is the only way to steer a motorcycle. Go talk to racers, cops, or anyone else who rides professionally, and tell them that pushing the bars makes for "wide turns" or "wobbles" and that "weigh shifting" is how to turn a bike fast at high speed, and enjoy being laughed at.

How are you guys doing simple things like changing lanes quickly or swerving around road debris? Heck, if weight shifting is what steers a motorcycle, why even touch the handlebars while you're going fast downhill through mountain passes? Just put the bike in neutral and weight shift your way through a hairpin.

Hello,
I am about 5'5 and a half and I weigh around 115... I am very interested in purchasing a Sports Bike, but I am confused... Is the 250 or 500 Ninja better for someone my size... Some people keep telling me that the Ninja 250 is to small and light for me but others say the Ninja 500 would be to big for me.... I have sat on both bikes and my feet can touch the ground on both... I am really confused... I found a Ninja 250, 2007 with only 1,800miles and the guy is asking $2,700 for the bike.... Please, HELP....

First off, a little background on my situation.

I am currently 21. I registered for the MSF course at my local community college at the end of the month. Since I was 17, I saved up a little cash from every paycheck and finally was able to afford all of my riding gear this past month (yes, this was more important than beer money in college)

I have logged more than 85,000 mi in my car in the tri-state area accident free (knock on wood). The way I drive is by constantly scanning the road and I anticipate what the other cars are going to do. I have logged many miles and seen my fair share of driving situations in both cities and freeways.

This being said, I am not trying to be cocky and say that since I can drive, I can ride. I DO take riding VERY SERIOUSLY and most importantly have RESPECT for the motorcycle. I'm also not trying to come off as naive to the dangers of riding a motorcycle.

If only by a judge of character, would you say I am ready for my first bike?

I was looking at my saddle bags on my Harley and my girl friend has placed make-up, personal-care products, plus some clothing and other items in my saddle bags. I have no place to put anything I want to carry with me when I ride.

...at Stop sign? ...at a traffic light?

I just received my second warning (no tickets... yet) for "rolling through a stop sign" and "failure to come to a complete stop".

Both times I did so when no oncoming traffic was even close. I slowed to a crawl and checked all directions carefully before continuing through the intersection or continuing my right hand turn.

I don't know about you, but I find it inconvenient to stop fully, take my feet off the pegs, plant, and then take off again from a dead stop.

Obviously, when I see traffic approaching I have no problem coming to a complete stop and waiting it out. But when nothing is near??? Come on. I for one, just roll on the throttle and take off (having slowed enough to require first gear).

Is it a bad habit? Or a just a bored cop?

The answer I found most informative reccomended using a fuel tank cleaner to clean rust/gunk out of the gas tank and seal it. When I emptied the gas tank there was no debris in the fuel at all. When I say none I mean NONE. Visual inspection of the fuel tank, the inside doesn't look rusty (as much as I can see from looking into the filler) Can you usually see the rust or should I just assume its there and hidden in some part of the fuel tank I can't see? I can probably see about 1/3-1/2 of the tank by looking at it every angle I can.

Can someone tell me how to remove the needle bearings? I've removed the roller bearings by tapping them out with a rod, but I can't get to the needle bearing cartridge because of a beveled section in the bore. The service manual says to "press them out," but I see no way to do that. A bearing puller only seems to work for the roller bearings & not the needle bearings. If anyone has already done this, could you please reply with a detailed description? Thanks!

I've been looking around for this for quite a while and just don't now where to look. I've tried countless sites and no one seems to make one for this bike since its so rare. Also i need to find a place to buy the boots that connect the cylinder to the carburetors.

I was doing a wheelie on my street bike. I looked around and no traffic was on the road besides me and my buddy on his bike. I popped it up and will still up and going past an on-ramp i looked over and no traffic coming up the ramp so i continues to ride it. Finally setting it down i see head lights 5 ft from the back of me and i figured a cop so i pulled over. I was polite with Yes Sir/No Sir and gave him no problems. Now Im facing losing my liscense for 6months and paying $250

Tommorrow is Ride to Work Day (July 18th). Who is going to do it?

http://www.ridetowork.org

Yeah, yeah... I know... go ahead and tell me you are all those hard core and ride to work EVERY day, right??? Then how come statistics show that only 0.12% of the 4% of the population with registered motorcycles actually commute to work?

Make a difference, people, and park that cage already! Put the boot on it.....

This from the California Highway Patrol:

"In 2001 there were 3,517 fatal collisions in California. Motorcyclists were involved in 298 (just over 4%) of those collisions. The motorcyclists were at fault in 215 (72%) of the fatal collisions. In 2001 there were 201,478 injury collisions in California. Motorcyclists were involved in 8,014 (just under 4%) of those collisions. The motorcyclists were at fault in 4,266 (53%) of the collisions."

Team Oregon recently reported similar statistics - there, 88% of the accidents cited were the fault of the motorcyclist, and 60% of those were single vehicle accidents.

SO, why on here do I continue to see so many people blasting cages for causing all the problems, justifying their need for loud pipes, etc.??

The Hurt Report is an old saw from the 70's. Quit using it to blame others for your own problems already. We are our own worst enemy. People - it looks to me like we need to learn to be better riders.

I recently brought a classic 1980 kawasaki z550a and in a moment of foolishness i filled it with octane 99. Once the bike is warm the rev's stay high up after the throttle has been released only decending back to idle after a few minutes. They can be forced down by breaking in gear. The push and pull throttle cables are all returning back to their original positions on top of the carbs so i know they aint sticking. I've now ran the tank to reserve and filled with octane 95 but the problem continues. whats wrong???
