Ninja 250 for a Small Woman?

Hello,
I am about 5'5 and a half and I weigh around 115... I am very interested in purchasing a Sports Bike, but I am confused... Is the 250 or 500 Ninja better for someone my size... Some people keep telling me that the Ninja 250 is to small and light for me but others say the Ninja 500 would be to big for me.... I have sat on both bikes and my feet can touch the ground on both... I am really confused... I found a Ninja 250, 2007 with only 1,800miles and the guy is asking $2,700 for the bike.... Please, HELP....

First thing you have to ask yourself is how do you want to ride. Are you interesting in just commuting, or do you want to go out and shoot the canyons on the weekends. The Ninja 250 is great for just commuting, but it is really lacking as a sport bike. If you are a beginner, then either bike is ideal but I would not suggest new. Get a used bike, as beginners have a tendancy to fall down. When you have gotten experience and are ready to buy new, I would go with a 600 series. The 250 and 500 are nice but as you ride more, you quickly crave more power. Kawi 636 or CBR 600 or R-6 or something comperable. I know plenty of females you size who ride 600s, but are experienced. I would start with the 500 over the 250 though. It has more power but is not as harsh as the 600s. Plus the 500 is still fairly cheap insurance wise.

You can get a new Ninja 250 with zero miles for 3000, so don't buy that used bike.

The people who say the 250 is "too small" are full of ****, and in my experience mostly bad riders with more ego than skill. I rode a 250 for a year to learn and it was not "too small" and I am 5'8 and 150 lbs.

You'd do well with the 250. Find one used, a few years old, learn on it and then sell it for the same you paid for it.

Anyway, if the 250 is "too small," the 500 will also be too small. The difference between the 500 and a "real" 600 is huge. Just go with the 250 first.

Either bike will be fine for you, both have about the same top speed {fast enough to go to jail} but the 250 gets better milage. About 80mpg instead of 55mpg. The 250 relies more on rpm to produce power so is down on torque compared to the 500 but no biggie,just spin it. Take a rider course and check your insurance company for coverage before you buy.

i'm 5'2" [though, i'm a big girl - 180 lbs] and i ride a ninja 500r and it works nicely for me. i've never been on the ninja 250, though.

for a starter bike, the 250 would probably be better, but you'll likely outgrow it quickly. if it were me, i'd jump right into the 500. it really depends on what you're more comfortable with...and when you think you'll want to upgrade.

I second what quick said. I'd go with the bigger engine since most people outgrow the smaller engine very quickly. Actually, if you can find a 750cc that would fit you, I'd go that route and be done with it. You could do 80mph on a 250 and therefore you could kill yourself just as dead on a 250 as on a 750. I also second the MFS course. Good luck.

goto a kawi broking and sit down on one. im particular the two your ft will touch at 5'8 yet go sit down on one and get a sense for it. and connect a bike protection course they assist you practice on one in each of their motorcycles they prob even have been given some 250 ninjas

I am your size (5'4 and about 125) and I have a 2005 ninja 250. I was told the same thing about it being too small.
I bought mine new for 3 grand.
I love mine it is black with lime green.........
