Ok so I have been slacking and left my 2005 ninja 500 out in the rain a couple of times. The bolts and chain are starting to rust. What are the best things to use to get the rust off? Should I replace the chain?

The bike has not been started for a long time until today, it will bump start in 2nd gear, but it wont start off the starter button. Instead it makes a very fast ticking noise, which is comming from the solinoid starter relay......is this because the relay is broken, or could it be that the relay is making this noise because of something more serious, like the starter motor itself being seized?? Other than this the bike is fine, and the battery is fully charged, any suggestions??

I have a '88 Kawasaki EX500. What is the size of the bolt that holds the shifter in place. It fell off when I was riding and now I can't ride anymore until I get it fixed because my shifter is just hanging. I need it today because I don't feel like waiting 5-7 days for the parts to be shipped to the store.

Look at this pic. It's the bolt that's circled all the way at the bottom

This is the actual pic of the bolt

Hello, I ride a 2005 Yamaha V-Srar Classic 650 and recently I hit a hole and dented my rim. It is a spoke wheel and the lacing and truing job on it is quite costly.

Does anyone know where could I get nicely-priced aluminium (mag) wheels or spoked ones...

I am starting to think about purchasing mag wheels...

I tried a couple of salvage yards online but it is merely impossible to find a front tire that is intact...

Thank you in advance

I need to buy some new mirrors for my street bike. It's a 1998 Suzuki Marauder. Does anyone know any good, reliable online places to pick some up for a good deal?

2 Harleys once in my garage (worst investements of my life), 1 Honda Shadow (still running strong after 16 years), and one Yamaha YZF600R (probably the greatest all around sportbike ever!! and runs real strong).
Oh!! and ever since I got rid of those HD lunkers, my garage floor has been 10 times cleaner!! and my neighbors don't think I'm a jackass after all :)

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ440, its my first bike...got it for cheap and running. I just had to clean the carbs cuz the bike was sitting for a long time and they were badly varnished. This didn't keep the bike from running...it just ran akwardly cuz of it (random loss of power while adding throttle) Now...the carbs are clean and have some left over carb cleaner, and my buddy told me I should put it in the gas tank to clean it out. I don't know if my buddy has any idea what he is talking about. I know a gas tank can get gunked up but I don't think this is the way to clean it. Anyhoo...my thought is...carb cleaner is not called 'gas tank cleaner' and the directions say nothing about using it as such. I took off the petcock and cleaned that with water and an air hose, I emptied the fuel tank and there is nothing solid bouncing around inside it...should I even bother with carb cleaner or just put the bike back together and finally learn to ride?

I'm looking to buy a scooter until I can get a good job to pay for a car and insurance (a couple years), and I'd like to know if there's a scooter that is best-designed for a climate like Chicago, especially in the winter. I don't plan on using the scooter other than for school or work, which are both a 5 minute drive from my home, so driving in cold weather isn't too much of a problem for me (I can dress warm). My problem would be driving the scooter while it's raining or snowing, or while there's slush or water on the asphalt, and therefore my question is: is there a scooter you would consider more "off-road" than others in that it is more capable of slippery environments? Or perhaps possible upgrades for scooters to make them more stable (ex. do they make tires with better traction or weather tires for scooters)? And what companies make three-wheeled scooters (which I would guess to have better traction)? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

What is it that you personally find to be your best strength as a rider? what makes you confident ineven getting on these roads these days with soo many idiot cagers? We ALL have lost friends over the years, yet i find myself still buying a new bike every couple years.I personally do not have a clear answer as to how I still have the sack to throw a leg over, and yet while on it,all those thoughts of death and carnage Ive witnessed over the years seem to fade a bit,if only the duration of my ride.
Id say for me its confidence in my own riding skills from many years of riding,i was riding before i ever owned a bmx bike....ida know...freaks me out at times to think of it all.

I have an 84 Honda Shadow VT700C. It runs fine when I first start out, but from my observation, after the temprature gets in the red it starts to sputter to the point where it finally stalls. This has happened twice to me so far this year. What do you think this problem may be and how much do you think it would cost to fix it? I would appriciate any answers you may give.

It seems as though 2500 for a running but non rebuilt engine is the going rate. FYI, I don't care if it has s&s parts.

I don't think insurance companies and police auctions are going to be it.

I have a 1996 Honda Shadow VT1100, and it won't start. A couple of months ago, I was riding along and the bike just died. It appeared as if the battery was dead, as it would barely try to turn over. My mechanic replaced the connector between the rectifier/regulator and the stator, and he said that might work for a while, but one of the two (or possibly both) might end up needing to be replaced. Well, I went out to start it the other day, and it wouldn't start again. I even had a trickle charger plugged into it all night. All I get is a clicking sound from below. I'd like to do the repair myself, as I'm fairly mechanically and electrically inclined, but I don't know how to troubleshoot whether it's the stator or the rectifier/regulator. I don't want to throw a bunch of money away replacing both if I could just replace one of the two parts. Thanks.

I got a $25/2 points ticket in DC while driving a motorcycle between cars. I wonder in how many states this practice is legal, and whether there's a way to eliminate the points.

How do you use 'em ???
I mean.... i have always ridden bikes with gear shifters that work with both ends of the feet ( you know .. the normal ones ... like in Pulsar and the sorts ) ... but some other bikes have this 'toe-only' gear shifter which looks freakish to me ( Like in Karizma) .. so how do you shift gears with these shifters ?? .. i mean shifting down seems easy ,,, just hit it with the toe ... but how do you shift up ????
