Why do Harleys suck?? And why must the people that ride them have to be so rude and "tough"??

Question

2 Harleys once in my garage (worst investements of my life), 1 Honda Shadow (still running strong after 16 years), and one Yamaha YZF600R (probably the greatest all around sportbike ever!! and runs real strong).
Oh!! and ever since I got rid of those HD lunkers, my garage floor has been 10 times cleaner!! and my neighbors don't think I'm a jackass after all :)

I HAD!! key word there smart guy HAD a Sportster. But like most HD's it fell apart, and not from lack of maintenance. I can tear down and reassemble almost any year of HD. My dad is a certified mechanic and passed down the info. I'm just asking, Why do they suck?!? So much to "bragg" about, but nothing to back up all that loudness and "toughness". I'm a converted sportbike rider now, and life is great!! $100 dollar tune-ups compared to $300-$400 HD tune-ups!! I'll take that anyday!!

Harley owners definitely stick up for their product. I'm just asking though,...why so passionate and "patriotic" over something that creates, for many, an alter ego?? I think it's silly and crazy. I never acted like that when I was chuggin' along on mine. My ol' man works on them, but refuses to own one. Says alot really, and he's got over 40 years experience! Harley mechanics definitely make good money,... ripping folks off!

Even though I don't own or ride a Harley, and I refuse to get into arguments about brands and which bike is "best", I will say that my experience with riders, bikers, motorcyclists and even wanna-be's is that in direct comparison with the rest of the human race, I'll take riders every time. I've had beers with Hell's Angels and gone to church with Christian Motorcyclists. I've helped bikers who were broke down along the road and had others stop just to check on me and make sure I wasn't stranded. Maybe what YOU'RE seeing is a reflection of your own attitude, or perhaps what you perceive as rudeness is filtered through your own feelings toward others. You may be getting snubbed because you snubbeth, or getting attitude because that's what you give off. I find very few people who don't respond to a smile and a warm greeting...K ;o)

WOW did you just make all this stuff up all by yourself? I just looked out in my 4 car garage, and every one of my Harley's have more than 20,000 miles on them. Some have more 80,000. I didn't see any oil on the garage floor. I just sold a 1974 HD Sportster, that's a 33 years old incase you can't do the math, that is in new condition. And 33 years isn't old when you are talking about Harley Davidson. With the proper maintenance a Harley will last forever. You can go to any bike show and see 1912 and 1915 or even older Harley Davidson's that still run perfect. You know what you don't see? Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda or anything that burns rice. When's the last time you saw any Yamaha made before 1960? I can show over 100 Harley Davidson in perfect condition that were made before 1960.

Let me explain how mechanical technology works when you compare Japan to America. Germany, Italy, and the USA make bikes. We all know that. But Japan will 1st buy the bikes those countries make and then dissect them to understand everything about those bikes and then they will make their own bikes from those. Japan copies other countries tech. and then release their own product. Think of Japanese bikes as refined versions the competition. Japan has Yamaha V-star bikes. America has Harley V-Rod. It is also the same thing when you talk about cars. Toyota will rise above GM soon.

Not all Harley riders are crude,rude, and socially unexceptable...Their are plenty of Professional and just Ordinary folks who like to ride Harleys.
But Harley riders DO have a Stigma attached to them.
I love my 1984 Honda Shadow 700cc VTwin, but I'd like to get a Harley, just because I LOVE the sound.
Personally, I don't like the Crotch Rocket Riders, they are the ones who act like Hotdogs and ruin it for the rest of us Bikers.

Maybe they are rude and tuff towards you because you come off with this total BS about knowing how to tear down a bike and rebuild it and in truth you are just a snot nosed kid that is still wet behind your ears. (otherwise you'd tune it yourself and NOT get hosed for $300-$400)
If you enjoy riding your little sport bike, go ahead, have fun, but word to the wise, keep your punk mouth shut around people that ride Harleys, you'll either show your immaturity or get your butt whipped

I agree, the crotch rocket riders give all motorcyclists a bad name worse than Harley riders.

I can't complain about the 1993 Sportster 1200 I had. It never leaked a single drop of oil in 43,000 miles, and the only thing that went bad was a $11 oil pressure sender. That is pretty dang reliable.

The newer are Harleys are really well made, IMHO.
