If the ground wire is touching the hot wire i know there will be a short circuit and a fire but will the instrument it i s attached to preform bad??

This is just a question for general knowledge not because it is happening on my car??

Ok..I posted about my 95 impreza running out of gas and not restarting...we have checked everything anyone has said and still no start....we are having it towed to be put on a diagnostic check later today if they get to it...but now im starting to wonder if something else went before I ran out of gas...checked pump, filter, has spark...checked fuses...still not running....cant get catalytic converter off to see if thats it but would a bad one stop it from starting at all? I know my exhaust is bad...anyways...let me know if anyone has any other ideas!!! Thanks for your help

it will run if you pour gas into it,the fuel pump is working but no fuel to injectors,its a v-6

I have a 93 Buick Regal. When I turn on the AC or window defroster, the air come out through the bottom vent. It is as if the middle and top vents are blocked.

This problem started out intermittent, but has become more constant. When the key is turned on, all dash lights look good, dome light good, radio good, etc.. But when you run the key all the way forward to start the engine, there is no sound from the engine at all. After 20 or 30 minutes, the car will crank normally. This is happening usually when you stop for gas, then the car will not crank - we have to push the car to the side and wait for it to cool down. Seems to be heat related of course. Dealership tested - could not recreate the problem. The battery tested bad, so we replaced the battery with a new Ford factory battery which did not help the problem. Any ideas on this? We're taking it back to the dealership for another look, but they are saying on the phone that the alternator is the next likely item to replace - common sense seems to not support that conclusion though. I'm afraid of throwing a lot of $ at this problem.. Thanks for Help!

How would I know if I had engine bearing problems i.e. what sort of noises, how loud and how would the performance be affected. When you hear a Squealing sound from other peoples car engines, does this indicate bearing problems / neglect ?

I restore cars and trucks for a hobbie. I have a large Ingersoll compressor with a Detroit 3-53 diesel I use to sandblast.
I primarily use 2 different blasters. One takes 300lbs of black slag and the other approx 150 lbs.
My problem has always been MOISTURE.
It drives me nuts and can really screw up a blasting job and take forever.
I do have water traps at each compressor,but nothing fancy.
I'm thinking of building some sort of air dryer/chiller or something. Does anyone have any good remedies or tips?
The compressor puts out a steady 120 PSI.

just got the altinator recondishioned a month ago and 2 weeks ago just when my clutch was going the light battery light came on, a day after the clutch was fixed the battery was drained jump started grand but no charge got a new battery that worked good for the last week and a half and now it is completey drained alot worse than my last oone was wont even go on a push start but tried jump startin it for 30 mins and got it on left it for 15 mins turned car off and when i try to turn bak on was 100% drained again

Heard that buying gas for your car in early morning gives you more (cold temp reduces liquid volume). Makes sense. But they also say that you have to go full tank. How valid are these advisories?

oil was fine two weeks ago, i checked for leaks under car and found none. it was making a noise earlier, it would come and go. it is running fine, no lights on dash, not overheating. i added some oil and the noise stopped. it is a 2004 chevy cavalier with 68,500 miles on it. nothing else seems wrong. i have heard that it could be fine or it could be a head gasket. i do not smell coolant and the level of the coolant is fine.

my camaro's tranny just went out a few days ago and i've wanted to convert it to a 6 speed for a long time, and i figure now is as good a time as any.

price wise what am i looking at?

is it just cheaper to put in another auto tranny or have it rebuild?

or what would the expected price be to convert it to a 6 speed?

The dent is about the size of a fist. It is located in the space between the door and the taillight. It is rather high up on the car. It is not pushed in too deeply and there is no scratches. I have no idea how it got there. How much will this cost if I were to get it fixed?

I recently bought my son a 89 s10 blazer, and since he has had it, the oil pressure fluxuates really badly. and today he changed the fuel filter because the car putters alot. After when he got the fuel filter changed and went about 5 miles, and the vehicle started puttering worse, and he could not go over 54 mph's, no mater how hard he pushed on the gas. The car had a burning gas smell to it too. Please help, we would appretiate all answers

Me and my brother was coming from the dmv and all of a sudden the car shuts off what could it be. I checked all the fuses, timing belt, changed the spark plugs, changed driverside coil, checked the fuel pump(don't hear the pump, but it's getting fuel). It's only getting fire on the passenger side coil that's why I changed the driver side coil. I keep hearing a noise under the hood when the ignition is switched on. It sounds like something's adjusting.

My dashboard light (where the spedometer is) and my tail lights are out. The tail light works when i press on the brake. I changed the fuse (which was blown) and they still dont work. What else can i check and fix? And how do i do it? I have no idea what im doing and dont have the money to take it somewhere.

I have a '73 Chevy Impala that has a 350 engine with a th-350 tranny. I've always wanted a big block, so I shopped around and found a '78 Chevy Silverado 3/4 ton truck with a 454 engine and th-400 transmission that is in excellent running condition. I want to take the engine and tranny out of my Impala and replace it with the engine and tranny from the Chevy truck. people I talk to say it is a easy engine swap as the Impala has mounts for the 454 and th-400 since it was an option back then. I am not a mechanic, but I do know cars and tools and have experience since I was a teen. I have always repaired all cars I have owned, but never have I done a engine/tranny swap from another vehicle. i don't want to spend $1500 to have my local shop do it, but would consider it if it is going to be a pain in the a$$!

Questions: What am I getting myself into? Can this be done over a weekend? Should I bring this to a shop? Any issues you all forsee with this project?

Thank you everyone for the answer to my struts question! My next question is that if i get a wheel alignment for the front after the strut change, is there anything that needs to be done to thee rear? I'd hate to be driving sideways down the street!

I have a '65 Mustang Coupe with a 289 Small Block V8 (4bbl).

It was running fine, but then stopped. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, but when I couldn't figure it out, I asked my dad to take a look at it.

We got the timing set correctly on the distributor (it's easy to get them 180 deg. out), but we noticed that as you crank the engine by hand, if you put your finger over the spark plug hole you feel it pushing air out (compression stroke - both valves closed, piston coming up) when the piston was all the way up, the rotor wouldn't be firing #1, even though it is set correctly.

My dad was convinced that it had jumped time - so I pulled everything off the front of the engine and took the timing cover off. I am looking at the cam gear (top big one) and the crank gear (bottom small one). Supposedly (according to the book) there should be a mark on the cam gear that should be pointing down when the crank gears keyway is pointing up.
