my camaro's tranny just went out a few days ago and i've wanted to convert it to a 6 speed for a long time, and i figure now is as good a time as any.
price wise what am i looking at?
is it just cheaper to put in another auto tranny or have it rebuild?
or what would the expected price be to convert it to a 6 speed?

to buy a new tranny you'd have recalubrate computer on board to meet the needs about 200 bucks/ tranny cost about $5000 dollars.(stick or automatic, driveline change?
overal cost ? maybe $7000.00 up to you!

It's way to much to even consider it . By the time you get the trans the shifter extra pedals and clutch set up trans mount and maybe a different drive shaft plus the mods you will have to make to the computer you could have fixed the auto trans and have a serious hunk of change left over.
