somethings wrong with your tires.
alignment is needed when your car tends to go slightly to the left or right when you try to go straight
balance is when your steering wheel shake in a certain speed.
there might be some other reason for that shaking. only a mechanic can pin point what that is. Also there are certain miles that you have to have your tires and steering system checked to avoid bigger trouble.

A couple of things like front end alignment or tires out of balance would be first places to check.

4 possibilities; & not knowing what steering system you have
1. Tire(s) – balance or failure
2. Worn steering part – i.e. tie rod end
3. Steering box needs adjusting
4. Alignment

And, although not as common as it used to be, you could have a tire out of round. Tires out of balance. Front end alignment...all could cause that problem.

Your tires are out of balance and need to be checked for roundness, also have the alingment checked with the tie-rods,both inner and outers

I would also expect the problem to be in the tires. If the tires have more than 20K miles I would think they need to be replaced.
