That will not cause the system to fail but it does defeat the purpose. The ABS system can pump the brake several thousand times per minute more than the human foot. If you pump the brakes you don't let the ABS do its job.

No. But pumping the pedal is not necessary with an ABS brake system as it is designed to prevent brake lock-up on slick surfaces. But it will not cause the system to fail just prevent it from performing as it is designed perhaps.

Your brakes will work, but pumping overrides the anti locking system ... so if you're skidding or slipping you're not doing any good, you could even cause more problems. Just hold the brake firm (not hard) but steady. This was just on TV the other day ... they talked about ice, snow and slick driving conditions.
