My heating gauge goes up so quickly that I can't even drive 3 minutes with it.

Winter is here! I usually warm up the car before I leave for work. If I just started the car, and turn on the heat right away (when it's still cold).. is that ok?

There was a gas thing sticking up in grass when I was trying to park for an event, from the ground and I did not see it and drove right over it and realized it when it started to scrape so I backed up. It was one of them round ones. It was sticking up about 6-8 inches. I went and checked under the car and it looked like it just messed up the protective covering but today like 2 months later I saw oil or something on the ground and I am so worried that it is from when I ran over that gas thing. What do you think? Coud have it reached high enough to mess something up. Please help. Thanks, I never told my husband this car is his baby. thanks

I just got back from driving my car and when I went to park it, I took it out of 4x4 in neutral, then put it into park, shut the car off and it rolled backwards. I thought it was weird so I turned the car back on and put it into reverse and it wouldn't move. Shifted into drive and it wouldnt move, so I put it back into park and it made a kind of grinding noise..so I tried reverse and drive a few more times and still wouldnt move. E-brake isn't on..the car was turned on fully, any stupid little errors like that I checked, I have no idea what's wrong because it was running fine literally less than 10 minutes ago. Help :[

I just had my 4 snow tires put on my car and then balanced at Costco, but now the steering wheel vibrates at 45 MPH---does the vibration mean that they were not balanced properly? Or, is there another explanation? Thank, Chris

They all seem to have a very long 2nd gear. Then this low pitch rising humming or roar starts up. The motor rpm's stay the same - like it's stuck, but that other sound keeps going up toward the rpm's. Then, it feels like a stick shift(hard forward boost or jerks) when it finally goes into 3rd gear & and that sound becomes higher than the motors rpm's. This is where the bus feels like it is really pulling. The bus engages 4th gear like a typical automatic. Call me wierd, but its almost like music to me(I'm not the only one facinated with the sound of motors) Why?

AND which ALSO includes UNCOMMON warning/indicator lights?

I repeat- UNCOMMON. Anyone with half a brain can recognize the oil light, the battery light, the brake light, the check engine light, and so on. I'm asking about the lights that aren't so obvious.

Thanks, guys.

I bought a used 1999 Ford Contour on Thursday of this last week. With the temperatures as low as they've been I've needed to use the heat, but the car doesn't heat up at all unless I'm idling in drive for more than five minutes, but once I start driving again it cools off. Does that mean the thermostat is stuck open like my grandpa says, or do I just have a kick-butt radiator?

for ex when i have to slow down in 3rd gear going 25mph for a turn and shift it into 2nd. i shift into second but hold the clutch around the corner so the car slows down more. then even when the speed is like 18pmh and i slowly let out the clutch it slows down. why when its in the right gear. also when i instead leave it in 3rd my acceleration is too slow. how do i do it corectly so it dosent jerk or slow down.

I live in San Francisco and frequently have to park my manual tranmission car on steep hills. I feel as though the parking brake has been loosing its grip because I have to pull it all the way to hold the car. If I park my car in gear, can that be enough to hold it on a steep hill?

I have a 1990 GMC K1500, and for the past week or so, I have had trouble getting my truck started in the AM. The temprature has been in the single digits and teens in the early morning, when I start it up.

Most of the time it was very slow turning over and starting initially. One day last week it didn't start, but was fine after getting a jump. Yesterday, it was dead when I tried to start it, but started immediately after being jumped.

This morning it started to turn over, but died, failed to start when I tried to jump it. Came home from work and it started up instantly. Went out 5 minuets later began to crank, but didn't start. What'g going on?

The lights and other electronic features work, and the lights are not dull, but regular strength. Any advice is helpful

Upper radiator hose hot.
Lower radiator hose hot.
Upper heater core hose hot.
Lower heater core hose hot.
Still hardly no heat at all.
Temp gauge usually stays at cold(Thermostat going to be replaced)
I hear a gurgling boiling sound somewhere in the engine bay.
I smell anti freeze sometimes.
Antifreeze fluid is leveled.
Why is there no heat?

Ok so I had a problem with my car a few days ago, & I asked a question & now I have another one. Now the right tire won't spin, you can hear it trying to do something it sounds like rattling down there by the (right) tire. I had to put it in neutral and have it pushed into a parking spot cause it won't move. My dad said it is probably the CV Joint completely broke, but I just want some other opinions. I know it needs shocks/struts, because every time I hit the most simple bump it scrapes like you couldn't imagine. But that just started recently too, so I don't know if something happened that made everything break at once? I'm not a bad driver, I'm cautious going over bumps & I'm not a speed demon or anything. It's a '93 Intrepid. Any opinions would be sooooo appreciated. Thanks!!

WOULD THIS BE THE WAY TO FIND HORSEPOWER IF I DIDNT HAVE A DYNO AND ONLY KNEW THE TORQUE THE RPM AND THE NUMBER OF CYLINDERS

YES I NO THERE IS A DYNO AND THERE IS A FORMULA BUT I THOUGHT THE FORMULA WAS WRONG BECAUSE FIRST I FOUND TWO TORQUExRPM/(5252 OR 5254)

SO HERE IS A SETTING

THERE IS A 4 CYLINDER ENGINE SPINNING AT SAY 60 RPM(I NO THIS IS NOT A REAL FIGURE) WITH 10 FT LBS OF TORQUE PER CYLINDER

SO THERE IS ONE FIRE OF THE SPARK PLUG EVERY 90 DEGREES ROTATION OF THE CRANKSHAFT AND EACH FIRE PRODUCES 10 FT LBS OF TORQUE SO IN A SECOND THERE IS 40 FT LBS OF TORQUE CREATED NOW MULTIPLY THAT BY 3600 AND U GET 144000 NOW DIVIDE THAT BY 33000 AND U GOT URE ANSWER SO 4.36 HP

IS THAT A CORRECT EQUATION?????????????????????( I REPEAT I NO THERE IS A DYNO I JUST WONDERING I M A VERY CURIOUS PERSON)

IF YOU CAN SUPPLY ME WITH SOME TORQUE GRAPHS AND CYLINDER NUMBER OF SOME CARS THAT WOULD BE GREAT AS WELL AS ANSWERING THIS QUESTION

SERIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE

I have a 2001 ford taurus. It makes squeaking noise when I drive at low speed (<40 mpg). When I brake, the noise goes away. When I drive at high speed, the noise is not noticeable. I took it to the garage and they found the brake pads are one size larger than they should be. So they ground the extra portion. This didn't fix the problem. Recently I found the brakes don't brake well especially when the car starts to lean downwards (i.e. going downhill). I feel nervous that I can't brake the car when it gets out of the driveway everyday. Please help me...

I have a 2000 ford focus. The radiator is cracked and they say I need a new one. I was wondering on estimate how much that would cost.

Along with my circuit problem. I also have a short circuit that needs to be fixed. Does anyone know approx. the amount it would be for both??
