Well it depends. If the surface has scores or gouges in it and providing they are not too deep, then yes, they need to be resurfaced, In some cases, the surfaces look fine, but they may be warped, which you would be able to tell every time you put your foot on the brake and/or you have excessive vibration in the steering wheel only when you apply the brake It is recommended that everytime you have a brake job done, the rotors should be resurfaced to properly seat the new brake pads. Remember, there is a minimum limit to resurface rotors, it that limit has been reached, they will need to be replaced. and please, DO NOT buy those $20 rotors at advance or autozone, you just as well be putting your old ones back on, that is about how long they will last. PLEASE, DO NOT take any shortcuts on your brakes, they are the most important thing on any vehicle.

no, not unless your brake pads have cut into them and the rotors are gouged.

only if their really bad.....you can feel them for any grooves

however it is always best to resurface them before replacing pads..........
