Winter is here! I usually warm up the car before I leave for work. If I just started the car, and turn on the heat right away (when it's still cold).. is that ok?

Ok..maybe I wasn't being clear. I wanted to know if it's bad for the car to do that?

The heat is drawn from the hot water /coolant in the radiator system. So no it makes no different - other than that you are blowing cold air on your pretty little legs.

But you should give your car about 30 second (at least) to get the oil circulating before driving off (winter or summer). That could signicantly less the engine wear.

Good Luck.

I don't think it matters, that is, it is not harmful to the car. I found, though, that if I didn't turn the heat on for a few minutes after starting the car, I didn't get that blast of cold air in my face when I did turn the heat on. In my old Dodge, the car was warmed up as soon as I turned on the heat. Usually, in my new car, it warmed up pretty fast--about 3 minutes. Some of the cars I've owned took much longer, so letting the car run a few minutes meant it was warm when I got in to drive away.

It's okay but you will freeze . The blower will only make it worse until the engine warms up. Turn it on without the blower until it heats up. You can keep testing it until you feel the warm air come out. If the temps are very cold, you should warm your car up for about 10 minutes. Many people think you have to warm it up a lot longer, but you are only wasting gas.

Older cars had a resistor inside the heater to vary the blower motor speed and would put old a little more heat when set at medium speed. Newer cars are electronically controlled and it doesnt make any difference.

Doesn't matter, but if the car isn't warm, you're blowing cold air on yourself! that's can't be pleasant.
