When I plug the charger in and then unplug it, it automatic shut down on me... The battery icon down at the tool bar says "0% (charging)" and it has been one day of charging.

It is not actually charging when it is performing that way...
try to check your wiring

You charging the fricken battery? It's DC and if the reading on the meter is zero either the battery is fully charged or you have a bad battery. If the battery works it's charged, if not you need a new one.

Charging batteries is DC, not AC, check the fuse in the charger.
