Maintenance & Repairs - April 2007

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer (V6 Vin X). The AC has not been working so I thought maybe it could be a quick recharge of R134. Recharged and the compressor clicked on, but then shuts off within 2 seconds. Does the every 10 secs or so...does this mean the compressor is bad or is it supposed to do that?

any ideas to reduce oil consumption on a 2000 ford 5.4 engine (uses a qt. to 800 miles) have changed oil and filter religiously and do not abuse this vehicle AT ALL . Has absolutly no leaks at all and does not smoke at all either just uses oil rediculously...not using cheap oil either top quality. any ideas ? thx

I think my car may have a loose vacuum hose. Whenever I'm at a stop with my foot on the brake pedal, the car vibrates. Then when I accelerate, it goes away. But sometimes there is no vibration at all. It's on & off. If there is a loose hose, will it correct itself on it's own without adjusting it?

I am currently an auto tech student and one of the best in my class but I have only been wrenchin for bout four months now and I took a side job this weekend fixin my neighbors ball joints And apparently I bit off more than I can chew. I have never seen this kind of Hub and axle set up before with all these C clips and what looks like the brake rotor/wheel bearing is a single unit. Please just tell me how I get that assembly seperated from the wheel. Some Trick? Thanks

Hello out there, I know that out there is someone whom can give me their experience with 92 vette ignition troubleshooting. I blew radiator hose, complertely drenched engine. Checked fuses, coil, ignition module, wires. The initial computor codes suggested Opti-Spark distributor. However, after disconnecting all wires & connectors and blowing out with forced air, I no loger get dstrbtr code, but now I am getting: ECM, PCM, &
TPS codes Hanes manual say's there are no additional tests that can differentiate weather or not the problem is the ECM or the distributor. Can I assume that at this point I should start by replacing ECM & then, if still no spark the Distributor? Perhaps after installing ECM it will give me more accurate results. I can take it to the dealer & have it fixed but I don't want to put OEM if it is just going to fail again.

Hi, I have a problem with my brakes. I got new brakes 5 month ago on the back and for the front 1 month ago( and at the same time, got new rotors on the back becaus I thought that caused the noise, nope) my car is still sweeking and loud I might add as if I had no braakes left at all( but it's not the brakes they are new. Can anyone tell me what can it be. I want some kind of heads up before I get scammed from a brake shop telling me I need new ones again. thanks a lot, chyna

I want to check the engine timing. If anyone has a service manual I am sure it would be in there. When we give alot of throttle on our tractor it has trouble buring it all up. Another thing I would like to know is the point gap.

Hello, I have a manual 1987 supra turbo @ 86,000 miles that keeps choking. It'll start up with no problems and idles fine, but when I put it in any gear and try and drive past 2,500 RPMS it will choke. I can never drive past 2,500 RPM. Can anyone tell me whats is wrong with my car? thank you

I have tried several different types of cleaner including tar dissolverbur nothing seems to work.....there are spots all over this perspex...it is not glass....protecting the car speedo....and it will not scrape off...it is as if the cola has dissolved into the clear perspex shield

why wont my mirrors move, is it a fuse or relay, or could both motors have blown at the same time, i know that once set you shouldn't need to adjust but now has 2 drivers and one driver needs to adjust the driving position

i use to get about 930 km in a full tank now its struggling to get about 800. there is excess white smoke when i start it for the first time, and always when i am changing gears from low to high i think its when i put my foot down the accellarator,even a small pressure. it disappears once iam cruisin. The patrol is serviced regularly due to warranty.(which they wont pay for my claims) I got new glow plugs, belts has been replaced,new air filter, air sensor cleaned and injectors replaced. had a electronic diagnosis done twice by nissan service department and no fault found. had new valve replaced in fuel pump due to fuel pump pumping to much into system when hot. i want them to fix the problem but they want to eleminate the probable but no guaranty i dont want them to spend the majority of my cash taking apart and putting back on what they may "think". i need to get a good starting point where i can show them 3 probable not 11 reasons or may be know a good dieso mechanic in Townsville?

When i start my jeep it will run for 30 seconds and then die ive put on a new fuel filter and tps the weired thing is i drove it for 20 miles todayand it ran great untill i stoped and put it in reverse then it died and started its 30 second thing again i drove it home and the same thing ive checked and there is no vacumme lines off and ive checked with starting fluid ive also charged the battery and it has the right volts and the charging system is working it doesn't over heat and doesent make any weired noises the motor is out of a 94 with all the 88 parts on it the jeep did not do this with the old motor and i drove it to where i took the motor out of it and the new one back in myself. iv'e changed the plugs cap rotor and wires as well ive went through all the wires to make sure there is not a broken one and there all pluged in right has anyone had this problem please help if you can thanks james

I hit a massive pothole on my way to work today, and noticed when I got home a nice bubble on the tire. Its obvious it could burst. The tires have 17k miles on them. Will I have alignment issues replacing it with the same identical but new tire? Or do I need 4 new ones?

Where is a good place to get an oil change? Do I necessarily have to go to pep boys, or would the local car wash or gas staion be reliable enough? Also, should I watch them do it, just because I've heard bad experiences of the job not actually being done

my Honda CRX 88 4cylinder won't turn anymore, it died while i was driving ><' someone checked for me and he told me that the ingnition isn't sendin any sparks what could be wrong, wires? and pls tell me the cost to fix it. he also said that it might turn on tomorw morning but not to drive it cuz it will die again

please help. 03 Expedition when hardly steps gas loose ignition for half second.
the car has 4speed automatic and can feel it when it does changes gear sometimes loose ignition for half second.
when engine wormed up rpm stay on 500.(is this too low??)
took it to Good Years and changed fuel filter twice with air filter. and changed transmission fluid. also did computer diagnos and nothing came up.
it happens when passing other car and go faster right after drive slow.
for ex. when i almost reaches signal and it turned to green so i stepped on gas for increase speed there sudden calm appear for less than half second and goes as normal.
but today when i was waiting for traffic light my car lost ignition without any notice. like manual transmission vehicle.
i never changed spark plug or fuel pump.since new.
i usually drove car roughly so i'm thinking that transmission gears mass up??crack?
please someone help .. same experience , professional or mechanic. help me can f.

I have a 97 malibu and everything that breaks on it is so hard to fix. I bought a hanes manual that runs from like 94-99 and everything is says about it, it says except in 97. Apparently for that one year they tried new stuff and didn't like it. Does this mean it's a lemon year?
