I hit a massive pothole on my way to work today, and noticed when I got home a nice bubble on the tire. Its obvious it could burst. The tires have 17k miles on them. Will I have alignment issues replacing it with the same identical but new tire? Or do I need 4 new ones?

A lot of tire manufactures have a warranty against this kind of problem. The tire stores also offer road damange replacment I would check and see if you can get the same type of tire and have it replaced. It's best to replace them in pairs for even ware. while they are replacing them have them move the new tires to the rear and the old ones to the front.

take the rear wheels off and rotate them to the front.... 1 new tire in the rear=fine. but if you hit a pothole hard enough to break a bead, then youre probably going to have to get an alignment anyhow.
Replacing all 4 tires when one is damaged is a myth. It may have been true 50 years ago because of the poor quality rubber, but it is no longer true.

buy 2 and put them in the front. I would recommend a alignment. If u hit it hard enough to bubble the tire then you should at least get it looked at.

ith only 17K miles you shouldn't need 4 new ones yet. I would buy 2 though and put them on the front and have the front end aligned, I'm sure you knocked something out of whack.

Just replace the one that has the bubble. I'd go back to the dealer and tell them you have a defective tire and don't tell them you hit the curb. They will pro-rate it and match the brand if you don't get it for free. Dealers like to keep new customers happy, take advantage of that!

Your tires should have a lot of tread left on them and replacing one tire should be fine. If you are really concerned, or are replacing with a different tread design you probably should put the new tire on the rear if it was not already going there.

no problem putting one tire on but i would check the rim to make sure it isnt bent and i suggest you check the front end and do a wheel alignment

If your tires have 17k on them I would change all of them for your safety and everyone Else's safety.
