check the crank position sensor output. while cranking it is only 3/10 of a volt a/c.if yours will not put this much out replace it . if it does it must also be checked at the computer terminals [back probe only] it is typical to loose 1/10 of a volt through each connection point so an information service note was issued to separate the c.p.s. out of engine and body harnesses at firewall connector and by pass the connector by soldiering splices into place. do not use crimp connectors soldier only. using 60-40 rosin core soldier then heat shrink then tape back into harness neatly other than this i have seen a couple of intermittently failing coil modules give similar symptoms [fuel supply system and pressures ok]

Check the MAP sensor and fuel pump pressure. I had the same problem and found that the in tank fuel pump was bad. But before you do that, First check the fuel filter mounted on the frame under the vehicle. I am not saying that is the problem, but it could be. Since the engine is out of a 94 it should be fuel injected and requires the in tank fuel pump. Without it you can't maintain enough constant fuel pressure

If I understand you correctly you have a 1994 engine block and head with all the 1988 sensors and harness correct? You did not bring any of the 94 sensors with the motor? If this is correct then you have a sensor that is causing you problems. Question is which one is it. You need to have the system diagnoised with a driveability test to find out which sensor is causing you problems. Locate a good shop that has specilized in Drive-ability testing. they should be able to pinpoint the problem with a 15 minute drive.

did you use the 88 flywheel or the 94 flywheel? possibly crank sensor triggers are different in those years , I would be inclined to say you have a problem with that sensor somewhere, test thuroughly, i have also seen the auto shut down relay cause a similar symptom you can get full data from a 94 computer, ck for rpm signal when cranking while vehicle is not starting. the computer gets its rpm reference from the crank sensor
