I recently had a 1997 Geo Metro given to me. I had to learn how to drive a manual transmission from scratch. Needless to say, I haven't driven it very much yet. Yesterday, I accidentally drove with the emergency brake on for 5 minutes or so. I immediately shut it off when I realized it, and the car wasn't doing anything strange. I went to the grocery store and came back home with no problems using the emergency brake to secure my parking. Now today the brake is stuck in the air and will not go down to shut off no matter how hard I press down. Did I seriously screw something up? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I have a 1997 Chevy Express 1/2 ton van. I brought it in for an alignment today. The mechanic tole me that the "first alignment" is more involved and he explained that he needs to switch the upper control arms with each other before he can adjust the caster and camber. He wanted $300 for this. The van is 10 years old but I only had it for 2 years so I don't know if this is the first alignment ever but he claims to know that from looking at it. Does this sound like the normal way to do the "first" alignment? I told him to just set the toe-in ($75) and to wait on the caster and camber so I can check this out. What's your opinion?

Ok, I am a single female who is comletely home-repair retarded. I bought a new doorknob this afternoon. Is this a project I can do on my own or should I wait until I have someone who knows what they are doing? To give you an idea of my skills (or lack of skills!!) I know I need a Phillips screwdriver (and I know what that is), but the instructions talk about a chassis and spindle, and I have no idea what those are.

just last night i started hearing this weird clanking noise coming from the front right side of my car.. i tried some tests on it to try and figure out what it was comming from, and this is as far as i've gotten...

It only happens while the car is in gear. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th (all of them). when shifting back to neutral, the noise stops right away.

any ideas on what it could be coming from? im guessing something with the trans...but i dont know what.

As i have a hole in a hose which is leaking water would it be ok to just use a punture repair kit to seal it just as a tempory measure? or would either it over heat or maybe the glue on the repair would affect the engine?

Because i have been told that the hose i need is really arkward to get to and you have to remove alot of things to get to it.

As the strip used to repair is made of rubber just like the hose is.

Oh and my car is a peugoet 405 1.9 GLX TD.

Any help would be appriciated thanks.

The engine in my 1998 megane coupé has slowly (over a few weeks) become really noisey. Almost like a hole in the exhaust or something off center in the engine. Not too bad when ticking over, but bad at mid speed (even if you pop it into neutral). Causes no real loss of power... any guesses?

I recently purchased a used car with 80k on it. Two weeks after ownership the transmission blew on it. Under the federal law all cars requires a buyer guide and typically under normal conditions the car gets a 30 day warranty. Now the dealership is taking car of the repair but it is going on 2 1/2 weeks now it's been in the shop and they said yesterday it was going to be done tomorrow and now they are telling me today three more weeks maybe. My question is what should I do I already called stating this is nuts and I need a loaner as I military with 3 small children and one car just isn't cutting it. Both children have medical conditions which require to see medical specialist and sometimes the appointments are booked 3 to 4 months in advance. It is becoming very difficult on our family to get around with just one car on the days I work as I pull 12 to 14 hour days gone from 4:00 am till about 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Can I request them to move it too a repair station of my choice?

On each side only one brake pad was completly worn out while the other brake pad was good, this was on both sides of the car that this happened. What went wrong can somebody explain to me why this might have happened, I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu and we already changed the brake pads and rotors on both sides again.
