Maintenance & Repairs - December 2006

2 days ago i had the oil changed in my 2003 Ford Escort Zx2. While i was there the techs said that i needed new spark plugs and a "S" belt. i couldn't afford what they wanted for doing these repairs so i purchased the parts and brought the car to my friends shop to fix it for me. after the parts were replaced the car started having major problems. the engine felt like it was going to jump out of my car and i couldn't drive over 30mph and my rpms were very high. so the very next day i took it to a mechanic who hooked my car to a computer thing and told me i needed a new Cam Sensor, Ignition Coil and also that 2 of the spark plug wires had become disconected. they completed all the repairs and my car seemed better. now today, the day after it was repaired by the mechanic, the engine is statting to feel jumpy again (though not as bad) and when it was idleing at the stop light white smelly smoke started coming out from under the hood. i called the mechanic but they were closed today.

I had 4 new tires put on today and when I picked the car up the salesman told me one stud broke off while taking the tire off. He suggested I get that fixed (obviously). The car is a 2002, in good shape, 60,000 miles. The last people to have the tires off was a different repair shop (approx. 4 months ago). I can't help but think with care the tire shop could have gotten the lug off without incident, since the car is not all that old/rusted. So I guess the question is, does one have any recourse against the tire shop or is this simply a risk one takes when having the tires of their car taken off? (I was firm with the sales manager, at that instance I felt like I was being ripped off, and he "offered" to "buy the cheap bolt and pay the bill".)

I wrecked the front of my car and had it fixed. Now I have a very loud road noise. Just wondering what the cause might be and how to fix it? The noise is so loud inside the car that it is hard to carry on a normal conversation. I was thinking maybe it had something to do with the cvc joints or the transmission but not really for sure about either one. Will appreciate all helpfull input.

I just purchased a Acclaim from a police auction (yes, I know it is gambling) I put a good battery in it, and as soon as I turn the key, all the lights instantly go out. It doesn't even start.
But if I take both the battery terminal cables off, then put them back on, the lights are just as strong as ever. Then as soon as I turn the key, its lights out again.

It takes a jumpstart and will drive as long as I don't turn it off.
What could the problem be? I'd rather not take it to a shop unless I absolutely have to, since I don't want to pay them $60/hr to do something. I would rather tink around with it and spend 5 hours on it myself than pay so much.

($175, though!)

Where can I go on line to find what each fuse goes to on a 2003 jetta? The panel only gives me the amps for each fuse. The dealer cannot or will not help me.

Thanks

My brakes failed so we took it to a Monro muffler and brakes. There we found out someone had put ATF in the master brake cylinder.

We only had our oil changed in March 06 then we had an accident in August 06. When we got the car back a month later from the dealer, the anti-lock brakes started going off. We had no problems after the oil change…only after the dealership fixed it.

The master brake cylinder was ruined and the dealership is claming it was the oil change place.

How long would it take ATF to go through the brake lines and do this damage? Was it the oil change or was it the dealership?

My vehicle wont start... thought it was a bad battery, went and got a new one and still wont start... tried to jump and no start -- everything has power when i turn key except engine... also there is NO clicking noise like you normally get when a battery is dead.

I'm thinking it's the starter or solenoid... is the solenoid what usually makes the clicking noise?? Apparently there is some way to troubleshoot it by placing a screwdriver across the solenoid posts... what will that tell me?? Any help is mucho appreciato!!!

I just picked up my Dodge Van after a week (and $1200) in the Dodge Dealership shop for a head gasket replacement. The heater is not working, and they said I'd have to bring it back for a coolant flush next week. Isn't that something that they should have done before they told me it was ready. I wanted to take it in to Firestone today to get it fixed, but they told me the dealership should have done that as part of the job.

Dodge Dakota has been in pepboys for a week. Failed inspection 3 times for NO rear brakes. They changed the master cylendar, valve and brakes in front and back. They can't figure out why the brakes don't work in the back. And after calling Dodge, they don't know either. What could this be? Is it time for a new truck or is this fixable?
