Maintenance & Repairs - December 2006

A few weeks ago, my white car was parked downtown and someone came by and spraypainted a silver streak down its left side. I'm glad that they didn't actually "write" anything on it, but I have limited funds and a lot of other more important work that needs to be done on my car. Is there any less expensive way to fix this than having to repaint it?

So, it smells like gas all the time and kinda hot or burning a little when I stop. None of my little dummy lights have come on and it runs fine. I can't see a mechanic until Tuesday. What could it be, so I sound half-way non-girlish when I talk to him?

i have a mobile detailing company and i have hired the best of the best to ensure people or more than happy with there car, my only problem is windows. i have found that auto windo cleaner works on everything but windows. i still get water spots. i'm not sure but i think its hard water. i have tried regular window cleaner, auto window cleaner, rubbing alcohol, degreaser sprayed on a rag, viniger, and a few variations of some of these things deluted. i hear that steal wool will do it but it only makes sense to me that even fine steel wool will scratch the windows at least a little, and when dealing with $100,000 cars i dont want that mistake to happen. please help (yea, i know, if they were "the best of the best" then i would have this problem right? well, there the best in certain things, one at interior, one at wheels and tires, and ones and washing and waxing and clay bar, nobody for the windows)

I have a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis. After changing the front right tire (the passenger side) I found the tire was completely jamming when I tried to start the engine and drive the car. I took the tire off again and found the disk seems loose behind the brake pads. I don't know if this is normal. I don't know what could cause this. I don't know how to fix it. I need to fix it so I can get back to work!!! How can I fixt it?

The other night while driving home from visiting family, I pulled up to a stoplight and my car(2000 Hyundai Elantra-automatic transmission) just died. There was no sputtering, jerking or any other kind of weird noises...it just turned itself off. I tried restarting it but the engine just made a high pitched whining sound and sounded like the starter was not engaging. We managed to push it off the road and my husband tried to figure out what was wrong with it. At first, we were certain that the starter was not the problem. However, his father came to look at it and said that the starter was not engaging at all and that if the bendix(sp?) had come loose and hit the fly wheel it would have caused the engine to die. We've now replaced the starter with a brand new one but alas, we still have the same problem. Anyone have any idea what the problem could possibly be? We won't be able to have it towed to a garage until Wednesday. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm doing a budget project for my Economics class, and we have to have a car inspection and oil change somewhere throughout the year. All the places I could call to find out prices are closed today, and I can't find any site with the information so could someone please help. I need to find how much it would cost in the state of Pennsylvania to get my car inspected and an oil change. Please include your source so that I can show where I got the information from, and thanks!

it would seem as if it were running out of gas all at once and when I would barely excelerate--it would down shift hard and act like I was floorboarding it--but I wasnt. It acted this way for around 2 months--then it just kinda made a "clunk" and I was only able to go like 10 miles an hour for about 5 miles and then nothing--it was still running but that was it. I have replaced mass air flow sensor--(cha ching $$$) and fuel pump and when placed on one of those diagnosis things it read "multiple misfires" --what the hell ? Could it just be that the computer is screwed up? and multiple misfires??? um---how do you fix that?
