I've got the fuel filter removal tool and I insert it on the hose and for the life of me I cannot get the lines to disconnect from the fuel filter. Can anyone help me? Is there a trick to this?

Okaaaayyyyy!!!!!!!!!

that is the worse in line fuel filter the FORD people come out with.
in reality when YOU push the tool in between the pipe and the filter what trying to do is to remove some SPIKES in the end of the filter stem which happen to have lobes and the SPIKES are hooked in those lobes.
the trick...try to twist the filter and push the filter as if You where installing it that way You will be des un hooking and repeling the spikes that are holding the filter(and has graves and inbeddings in the filter stem)
the tool it self does not desengage the spikes only retain the spikes from hook again while they are loose

after You do.keep the tool holding the internal spikes(that You don't see) from re holding the filter stem and the filter out

come back with questions if some thing goes wrong
by the way......have the new filter close to You to avoid spillings

What usually happens is road grime and dirt getsinside the connection and it wont let the tool push the little tabs back to release the filter. So use compressed air or as i call it shop air to clean out the connections. And the tool should work. And spillage will happen but its only whats in the line. So make shur your not under the fuel filter when you remove the lines. And the fuel will spray for a sec because the fuel system is under pressure. When you do install the new filter cycle the key from off to run a few times this will pressureize the system and your SUV will start right away

It should be on the inside of the frame, on the drivers side. For the U222 vehicle program, it should be right about where the rear door is. You'll probably need a special tool to remove the filter. It's available at any auto parts store for like, $5.

Its a very aggrevating thing! Just snap the tool on and push in towards the filter and twist, then pull. Hope this helps!
