when does a car need a water pump, and if i smell the antifreeze inside the car when i do drive, does that mean i need a heater core replaced, but the heat works fine and so does the air. no leaks, no smoke, antifreeze not mixing with oil and car runs great with plenty of power before it runs hot! i have to put water in it everyday and can smell antifreeze in car while and after driving it...water not leaking from tailpipe and no heavy smoke from tailpipe either...whats left? when or could it need a water pump and when does a car need a water pump or/and heater core and do u think this will solve the problem? car is consistenly running hot with no leaks and draining water and antifreeze without leaking but can smell it in the car.....does this car need a water pump and why and a heater core and why and do u think this will solve the problem?

About 2 weeks ago I was doing a reverse donut (I know brilliant) in my 2000 Cavalier. Mid-rotation I lost power steering. Now my power steering only works when the car has been parked for about 2 hours and then it only works for about 5 -10 minutes. I also hear knocking sounds coming from the steering column when I turn the wheel. Also, starting about 2 days ago, the transmission has started to slip. That only happens when getting on the gas mid-way through a left hand turn. The revs climb freely, then catch, I get a jolt through the drivetrain, and then my wheels spin before they hook back up. I'm hoping to get through the winter with the car and then turn it into my permanent winter runner as I will be taking delivery of a new Solstice GXP. Can anyone give me some insight into these problems? All fluids are topped off and clean. Is it possible the power steering and tranny problems are related?

I have a basic automatic Mitsubish Eclipse. I already have a problem with an oil leak. I am having a lot of smoke coming out of the muffler and it smells really awful. It is a very thick smell but the color of the smokle is just a regular color as if you were starting it when it's cold out. It seems to me that it is way too much smoke because I had someone drive up next to me the other day and tell me that my car is smoking! I've actually asked two different machanics about it when I was there for something different and they didn't notice anything different. Although they may not have had it running long enough to really see how bad it gets, or maybe it got worse. Sometimes liquid will come out to. Also, the muffler seems to shake seperate from the car when starting. I've had someone tell me that is normal. I don't know enough about it to know any more about it. I'm aware this probably is something that would get fxied with the oil leak but I have to ask cuz maybe someone knows.

Car has a sun roof. I checked the rubber on the doors and didn't find anything strange. The sun roof is always shut properly. Is there a way to find the leak? Will taking the car to a dealer or mechanic help? How much would it cost to fix the leak?

My 1990 Volvo 240 has 230,000 miles; whoever can top this and has the most mileage gets the 10 points.

The car still has to be driven to be eligible.

My oil and battery gauges keep going back and forth, especially the oil gauge. The oil gauge goes up and down when I accelerate and decelerate. Is this normal. What could be wrong.

Some car enthusiasts spend a lot of money adding skirts (bodykits) and spoilers. Does it really make a difference in the car's performance as a whole?

Last year I attempted suicide by trying to inhale Carbon Monoxide from my car. I tried it on two separate occassions. I was in the car for like 8 hours both times.
I didn't work, probably because I had the windows up and they should have been down. I know the garage was small enough.
Or maybe that catalytic converter was doing its job. (It was April) As soon as I opened the door and inhaled some fresh air I was fine.

MY QUESTION IS: WHY ON EARTH DID IT GET SOOOO HOT IN THAT CAR?
UNBEARABLY HOT!
I FELT LIKE I WAS ROASTING ALIVE!!
IT WAS A NEWER CAR. CONVERTIBLE. I'VE READ NEWS REPORTS OF PEOPLE "ACCIDENTALLY" DOING THIS AND THEY JUST FEEL ASLEEP. THEY DIDN'T SWEAT LIKE A PIG IN A SUANA! THEY DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THEY WERE INHALING CO! CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHY IT WAS SOOOO HOT INSIDE THE CAR? NOT PLANNING ON TRYING IT AGAIN. JUST WONDERING.

This all started having a momentary loss of acceleration followed by a puff of hazey bluish smoke. Then the car ran fine. I started using Premium and then it stopped doing it. Then I switched back to regular and it started doing it again and started stalling out. Now I've switched back to Premium and it still stalls out but no funny blue smoke. But now when it stalls it's as if the battery has been drained and I have to have it jumped. What's the scoop, Mr. Goodwrench? Someone told me the catalytic converor was clogged. Is this true?
