ok we have gone to auto repair. went outside and tore your ford up im guessing. did you set the points when you installed them also dod you gap the plugs when you installed those. did you replace your plug wires. these are the reasons that makes it spit and sputter so to speak.

I've got an impression it's not a real new car. One thing about timing, the ignition system throws the spark when the points open, not when they close. I presume you have the firing order correct, plugs are clean and ignition leads are in good condition, clean and dry.

Check the distributor cap for tracking and dirt. If compression is good you can eliminate burned valves but not a head gasket blown between cylinders which sometimes does not show up on a comp. test very clearly. Hope it's not that!

Apart from that, can't say.

bad:

1) spark plug wire: check resistance of all wires. And also the connections of wires.

2) spark plug: check condition of all plugs.

3) spark plug wires running parallel to each other, causing spark jump to different wire. Make sure wires cross at angle, not parallel.

4) replace dist cap. too!!!

5) coil is ok. No need to replace that.

6) loose or unattached vacuum line anywhere in engine.

7) get computer sensor readout if above does not work. Could be many things. Most likely O2 sensor.

Please tell type car and year next time.

NOTE: this may NOT be an electrical problem at all!!! Could be fuel system. But must have more detail to determine this.
