Last year I attempted suicide by trying to inhale Carbon Monoxide from my car. I tried it on two separate occassions. I was in the car for like 8 hours both times.
I didn't work, probably because I had the windows up and they should have been down. I know the garage was small enough.
Or maybe that catalytic converter was doing its job. (It was April) As soon as I opened the door and inhaled some fresh air I was fine.
MY QUESTION IS: WHY ON EARTH DID IT GET SOOOO HOT IN THAT CAR?
UNBEARABLY HOT!
I FELT LIKE I WAS ROASTING ALIVE!!
IT WAS A NEWER CAR. CONVERTIBLE. I'VE READ NEWS REPORTS OF PEOPLE "ACCIDENTALLY" DOING THIS AND THEY JUST FEEL ASLEEP. THEY DIDN'T SWEAT LIKE A PIG IN A SUANA! THEY DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THEY WERE INHALING CO! CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHY IT WAS SOOOO HOT INSIDE THE CAR? NOT PLANNING ON TRYING IT AGAIN. JUST WONDERING.

SL-----I don't think you understood. The windows WERE UP, and this was in a garage, I did NOT "pump the fumes back into the car"

the mom------It was one of those storage places where you pay for a spot. I think it was sealed. And I had a type O. I meant "when I opened the GARAGE door and got fresh air", not the CAR door.

I'm delighted that you didn't manage to commit suicide. You have an enquiring mind and that can be put to good use for the future!
Back to the question. Firstly, having the windows UP keeps all the gases IN (which is where the suicidee would be) The carbon monoxide would make them pass out and eventually poison them to death.
In addition, when your car engine warms up, it does exactly that - warms up. Have you ever stood behind an exhaust of a car? Hot fumes come out - if you get too close you will burn yourself. So, if you pump the fumes back into the car, the car will definitely heat up too. It's possible you also had the heating on in the car and were in such a state that you didn't notice it.
Finally, just because it wasn't reported that the suicide victim was found sweating like a pig, doesn't mean that they weren't. I would imagine news of their death was the more important thing to report on. I doubt that many would care that they were also very hot.

Well, there are many variables that might explain why it didn't all go as planned. Your perception of the heat might have been greater than it actually was. The thing you mention that I find particularly interesting is that although your car was parked inside a small garage, you say that as soon as you opened to door and got fresh air- you felt fine. I'd say inside the car you simply built up heat which came from the engine and your excited body. Evidently, your garage is a lot breezier than you thought and not as well sealed up as the vehicle you were in- convertible not withstanding. Lucky for you it was. Perhaps you survived because all of these things worked to your benefit. Perhaps your guardian angel was really looking out for you. And perhaps the Almighty had determined it wasn't time for you to go yet- because he has other plans for you. Who knows, who can tell? None of us will ever really know for certain, we can only guess. One thing is certain, you were incredibly lucky. Now I suppose the most important question to ask is where do you go from here? I certainly hope you make good use of the future you were obviously meant to have.

although the your car got air-con provided inside the car, but the heat from the sun still go through from the wind screen. so it the heat will transfer from the outer layer of the wind screen to the inner layer which inside the car. so the temperature in the car will still increase.
beside that, when the air con in the car on for too long, actually the water sac-elation in the engine and the air cooler system will getting hot also..so the air con will start change to hot after all.
My suggestion is, you have to put the sun screen protector , so it will help a lot to cold down the temperature in the car and protect the heat from outside to inside.

well, the garage was small, and enclosed. The engine's exhaust is hot (don't put your hand near the exhaust to see how hot it is). So, you're pumping hot exhaust into an enclosed space for 8 hours.
Think if you cranked the heat in your house to max, and then sat in 1 room with the door closed. It's the same.
As to why it didn't work? Don't have a clue. The cat. converter wouldn't help... so I don't know.
And, please don't try again!

The gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc. are hot gases. You must have heard about the GREEN HOUSE effect taking place on earth due to too much carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in the earth's atmosphere released from cars, factory processes, etc. which is raising the temperature of the earth and the ice on polar regions melting and if this keeps happening, the day will come when whole of the earth will be under the water.
GREEN HOUSE GASES LIKE CARBON DIOXIDE AND CARBON MONOXIDE HAVE THE TENDENCY TO RETAIN HEAT.

I don't think they could ask the people who have committed suicide in this way if they were uncomfortable before they lost consciousness because THEY WERE DEAD! Or maybe they were running their A/C.
