I bought a 2001 Ford Focus a month ago. When I test drove it, the turn signals never turned off by themselves, I had to manually do it. The salesperson said it was because I wasn't turning the wheel enough, which is crap. I don't think he was lying to me necessarily, he just didn't know what he was talking about. I had test drove another Focus and those turn signals also didn't turn off so I thought that's just how a Focus works. After doing some research, that doesn't seem to be the case, so what is wrong with it? Can I get it fixed? The car is still under warranty so should I take it to the dealer?

I was asked to look at a Forester SL (I believe it was a 98) that the timing belt went out on while he was driving. He was told the gear went out on it. I am just a mechanic as a hobby and I only have experience with V-8 and V-6 Fords and GMs, and 4 banger Hondas, but I have never heard of the timing gear breaking. I've heard that the flat 4s are a ***** to work on and I wonder if anyone could tell me what I may be getting into by looking at this for him. The guy I am doing this for knows almost nothing about cars, and I am wondering if someone told him the (tensioner) pulley broke and he only remembers it as the gear, b/c that is what I seem to be finding on line. Also, I seem to be finding conflicting reports as to whether this is an interference engine or not. I told him I don't mess with valve damage and since he was driving when this happened I am afraid that it has some damage. Any help anyone could offer would be great. This guy is low on $ and I am trying to help him out

The alternator has a built in regulator as far as I can tell, I am weak on auto knowledge but have the manual. Can a short anywhere within the car cause the alternator to fail?

My question is this alternator is only 3 or 4 months old-was it just a bad alternator or what else could cause the alternator to fail?

'92 S10 Blazer

Mom said engine died and gas peddle dropped to the floor.

Father-in-law suggested ? coil ? Pulled old one, replaced with NEW coil, still nothing.

Then it was suggested that distributor cap needed to be replaced, got a new one and STILL nothing. The old cap however was REALLY worn. When I pulled the old one to put in new one, I though FOR SURE it was the problem, but no.

Ck'd fuel, and it getting the gas, presures there...

Plugs are alright, a little build up but I've seen worse work.

I have a problem with my 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix.......when you are driving between 52-63 mph the car shakes kinda like if you were to grab someone by the shoulders and shake them back and fourth. It appears to get better if u turn to one side or the other otherwise it stays the same. I dont know why it shakes like this but its getting to be a problem. Any suggestions would be great.

A friend of ours has been told that she needs to have the rotors replaced on her new SUV that has only 36K miles on it. That seems suspicious to me. I am suspicious that the dealership is maybe taking advantage of her not knowing a lot about cars. She is 60 years old and drives mostly highway miles. Any mechanics out there that can give us some feedback on this? We need an answer as soon as possible as the car is scheduled for service the first part of next week. Thank you in advance for your expertise and input.

Signed,
A concerned friend

1. When I put the car in reverse, the car shakes noticeably. When I put it back in drive or park, it takes like 1-1 1/2 seconds to get there and jolts.
2. Usually when I used to drive my car, the steering was nice and easy. Now it's alot harder to turn the steering wheel and it's very annoying when I'm trying to just joy ride to my next stop.
3. When I stop or slow down with my brakes, my car stalls a bit when I press down on the gas before actually accelerating. Maybe about a 1-2 second stall.

Thanks for your help and please identify which problem you are addressing.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong with my car?

While sitting, it shakes like crazy for quite a while and then revs up a little, stops for a brief moment, and goes back to shaking. It'll do this just after switching gears too until it gets to higher RPMs. So, when I'm in 5th gear and going above like 60 mph it doesn't do it at all.

Two days ago I noticed subtle changes as I had to switch gears much later than normal. Within just two days of driving, it seems like it escalated quickly to the shaking when idle.

When I drive the temperature seems to go up. But if Im idling in park it never moves. What could cause this? Ive changed the timing belt, replaced the water pump timing belt, water pump, thermostat, hardwired the fan, and changed the radiator. Im driving a 1990 Honda Accord.
