More often than not, a leaking caliper would cause a soft pedal, or a pedal that goes to the floor. If you have a hard pedal I would want to inspect the brake booster first.

A leaking caliper will cause a soft spongy brake pedal. On disk brakes the only thing that will cause a hard pedal is a frozen caliper. (Could be related to the leak not letting the caliper retract)

The brake system of vehicles must not have any leaks, Any leak will cause system bleed down.Hard brake pedal probably is a vacumn supply to booster or bad booster problem.
