Your alignment may be off, your tires may be either unbalanced or defective. Does it do anything when you brake? If you get a pulsating feeling when you brake then one of your rotors in your front brakes might be warped.
If it doesnt have to do with the brakes then my final answer would be that the TIRES need to be balanced, or one of them may be defective. Have you recently bought a used tire? CHeck to make sure they are not badly worn also. Or your alignment needs work.
Are you aware if either you or the previous owner ran into a curb or something? You could have a bent tie-rod or a broken one.

First thing I would ask is how long has this been happening? If it came on rather sudden, I would check the tires for broken casings ( the car may do the "hula" at about 4-5 mph if this is the case!)
I would also try putting tires on opposoite ends of car (always on the same side though). Which ever front tire is giving you the problem will make a considerable change in "shaking the steering wheel". It will also shake a whole lot less on the rear if the wheel is out of balance! A bent wheel could do the same thing, - (being less violent in rear) - at least you would know which one is doing it this way) - if you think is the tire or wheel, then try the spare and see if the problem goes away all together!
I have a Neon that shook for about a year, finally the tire got worn down a little, (and I like good tires on the front), -so I put a new one on front and moved the other one to the rear, --the shaking is gone, and it gives me no trouble at all on the back! I bought it with the understanding that the drive axle was bad, and didn't check it out, because it never got worse! I must admit though, - that I liked changing a tire a lot better than having to change an axle!

Does it shake when you apply the brakes at this speed or just normal driving. Check the tire balance, this is the most common cure. If tires check out Ok, then look into the suspension for wear and have the alignment done. Any way you look at it, it is unsafe to operate.
If the shake comes when you apply the brakes, then this is a sign of your brake rotors being warped or out of round.
good luck.........

A multitude of things could cause this problem.
All this guessing is as bad as the "mechanic" who says "I think it's the tires" then sells you tires you don't need.
Go to a reputable tire shop that does front end work, get it checked out and get an estimate of repairs.
I am not up on Pontiac so don't know if they have struts or not, this could be your problem. Definitely the front end, can't fix it without hands on.
DO NOT go to a dealer, worst advice any one can give.

From the symptoms, it sounds like an tire/wheel problem. If so, ask the repair shop if they will be using a Hunter 9700 Road Trust Balance (machine). This type balance can detect imperfections in the tire cords and other faults.

The problem your car has ,seems to be a tire balance issue, the speed your car is going when the problem exist leads me to this decision.A bent rim or out of round tire or suspension wear could also be the culprit!

Sounds like your tires are out of balance or you need an alignment. Could be tie rod ends also.

It could be something as simple as your front end being out of line. It could also be something more serious. Have it checked by a pro.

Sheeyah, tires, alignment, maybe a sway bar? If it's a sway bar thing, you should try NOT to drive.
