I am trying to change the brakes on my car and I can't get the brake calipers to go back in so they can fit over my new pads. I have been trying to use a C clamp but it is not budging. Is there something that I need to do to relieve the pressure? Any helpful hints?

Driving it recently....check engine light comes on...

Car is like thumping as you accelerate (its automatic)...just can't really accelerate...Of course its Saturday night, everything is closed, and its labor day weekend, so nothing will be open til prolly tuesday?

So, I came here to see what it could be...could it be the serpentine belt?

Throw out some ideas and possible damage to my wallet.

Thanks in advance

i have a 1996 ford contour and when i hook a set of jumping cables to the battery it starts but when i take the cables of the battery it dies, the car has been sitting in my garage for about a year. i hooked the cables up 5 times and after disconnecting the cables the car dies every time. the first time it stayed running for a couple minutes after that it died right after disconnecting the cables. could the car sitting in the garage cause the battery to die and could the problem be the battery even after starting with the cables. please write back asap.

The leak is where the valve stem is. It's a big leak, I don't know exactly where it is located, but it's by the wheel next to the valve stem, so i'm assuming that is where it is. I put my finger on the valve, and it stopped. I found this out by airing my tire at a gas station.

It's just come back from the garage after having a leaking water coolant pipe replaced. On the way home the revs took ages to slow when I eased off the accelerator and dipped the clutch. By the end of the 20 minute journey it was racing so bad that I could pull away without touching the pedal.

I had my check engine light come on, and stay on, so I took it into Advanced Auto for a free diagnostic. The code said I had an emissions problem. The person at the store said it could either be a leak in the tube that carries the gas, or that the gas cap wasn't on tight enough. The test turned off the light.

We turned the gas cap again just to be sure. After a few days the check engine light came back on. I'd gotten a new gas cap, and well..the light stayed on. So we know it's not the gas cap.

My mother said she saw a little smoke out of the tail pipe when I was pulling out the car to drive it up the block and back to test it.

My aunt, who's helping me with the car, is waiting for someone to get off their vacation first. It's a guy she trusts. So, as soon as he gets back, I plan to have it checked on.

The oil is fine, according to the dip stick. My car is a
1999 Hyundai Elantra. Any ideas what else might be going on.

I had posted a question earlier this week about a ignition problem. Took it to a mechanic and they fixed it but now my factory TachMeter isn't working. It worked before and now they won't stand behind there work. How easy will it be for me to fix this problem? Its a 1990 Acura Integra. Can anyone tell me how many wires there is and where its connect to from the Tach? Its a 5 speed if that help.

I have spots of road tar on my vehicle, which regular car wash soap does not remove. I have been advised to use Goo Gone or Oops, but I am curious whether or not these products damage the clear coat finish in the process of removing the road tar? Anyone with experience or advice?

I have a 2003 Honda Accord. When I go in reverse, my car begins to make this weird sound. I have taken off the brakes and my rotors and brake pads are fine. What could be causing this sound? Could it be something else besides the brakes?

It is more of a high pitched squeaking sound . At first we thought that it might be a rock in the brake so it kind off sounds like that.
