Driving it recently....check engine light comes on...

Car is like thumping as you accelerate (its automatic)...just can't really accelerate...Of course its Saturday night, everything is closed, and its labor day weekend, so nothing will be open til prolly tuesday?

So, I came here to see what it could be...could it be the serpentine belt?

Throw out some ideas and possible damage to my wallet.

Thanks in advance

Car has only 40K miles
Im afraid to drive it anywhere...so AutoZone does not seem like a good idea at this point, but thanks for the idea.

It could be throttle position sensor, but is hard to say...Best bet is to get the diagnostic codes read. Can be done at an autozone, if there is one in your area. Good luck.

If you want to check your engine light codes get a paper clip, bend into a U and below the steering wheel there is a black 12 pin connector, put the bent clip into the top right two, you can see where there is metal in them, turn your key on, the check engine light should blink in sequence and tell you the code. a *blink* pause *blink* *blink* is a twelve..etc, code 12 is normal, google it for GM OBD 1 trouble codes

You may have a bad spark plug, sounds like your engine is missing, get thengine light checked somewhere itll probably tell you what cylinder is missing then you can insperct that spark plug

Do you have a Tires Plus nearby? They'll be open.
