I'm kind of in a rush to fix it, like tomorrow morning, and I'm just not sure if I just have to remove the old one and relace it, or if I have to remove the engine mounts or anything major.

Its actually kinda a pain to change. First disconnect the battery from the car, just the cables. Then you need to remove the AC and power steering belts(real easy, just release pressure on the idler pulley and remove the belt) then loosen the alternator tensioning screw and that belt should be able to come off. Now when I replaced a alternator on a neon, I had the car on ramps to be able to work underneith. Then I actually jacked the car up to release weight on the front suspension, the suspension and steering components get in the way to remove the alternator. Now remove the bottom bolt holding the alternator in, remove the positive conductor cable and the other wire clip. The alternator will come out now, just move it around till it drops out.

You should get a manual too.. $15 and its worth it. Another place to look is www.neons.org they may have a how to..

Go to pep boys and look through the manuals, casually take notes , if you don't want to buy the manual, plus you'll need some tools
