at 5000 miles, the maintenance required lamp comes on to advise that an oil change is to be done as well as some other minor maintenance. The maintenance schedule book says to reset the MRQ. HOW?

It was on the driver's side near the exhaust pipe. It looks like a cover or something because it's contoured. I know nothing about cars and don't know if this should be put back on. Please help!

I have a 1997 Ford Taurus GL. It's mileage is around 149,600. I had to have someone tighten something in the transmission like 2 1/2 to 3 years ago. It was used when I got it. It is now making a rattling sound, that could be the fan or something else in the transmission. It sometimes shifts hard. But my main question is: How much longer should I bother fixing it up? I don't want to spend money on fixing the transmission if the transmission won't last much longer. What is the longest and safest mileage I should go on that car before I should start looking for another one. I keep up my oil changes, but I haven't had my car looked at since the last time someone fixed the transmission. This may sound bad also, but one of the windows doesn't want to go down, the dash is coming unglued, and the inside part of the door is coming loose. The passenger door window isn't sealed all the way, so it sounds like you're going to fly out when I drive. Thanks!

Im a single mom living on very budgeted income, bad credit and my engine block on my car has a crack in it. I dont have any other form of transportation and money is tight. I know that the hole is practically unfixable unless I had about 10,000 to fix it, but is there any option to getting a new vehicle fast? Its hard for me to find rides and I work in stuart and live in PSL, plus having to drop off and pick up my son Mon thru Fri in mid PSL. Of course not to mention running regular errands and getting to the bank. What can I do?

I have corrosion on my battery - a bunch of white powder forming around one of the terminals. I've heard I can use coke to clean it then a mix of vaseline and bicarb to fix the problem. How do I do this? Do I have to unhook the terminal first? Or just pour the coke on then add vaseline and bicarb? how much?

I have a 94 dodge caravan and I think my transmission is going out. I noticed that after I put trans fluid in it (which I think I might have put the wrong kind in)it started acting up.What its been doing is after I drive it for a mile or so I start to hear and feel a thumping. It also will completely stop as if I hit the brakes when I let up off the gas. Also its like it don't want to go the engine reevs up and I have to floor it just to get to go. Could it be because of the fluid I put in it and simply need to drain it w/ a new trans filter or is my van preety much shot? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

How do I test the alarm on my Vauxhall Astra 1.7dti estate?
Have tried locking car up leaving a window open and waving my hands inside car (As suggested by Vauxhall) but nothing happens.
Is there anyway I can test the alarm to see if it is functional?
It appears when I set it that it's all on but I am not 100% certain.

Whenever I hit the lock/unlock button the back trunk/hatch latch makes a "tired motor noise". It doesn't unlock the trunk. When I use the key it unlocks it and it will open. What is this part called? The trunk locking mechanism...motor...?

I stopped in at a gas station my jeep was running and it did start up although, lately it has starts a little slow like, but always starts after a couple times of turning the key. This time it when I turned the key nothing happened and it just wouldn't even try to turn over. The battery was working on about half power, I did try to jump it but it wouldn't jump. I tried to push started it but it didn't work, although I don't know if that was because I was pushing and my girlfiend was trying to pop start it. It couldn't be the oil could it since the car won't even start to turn over. If I let it sit for a minute it might click once when I try to start but barley. I have it sitting in a gas station over night what should i do. Also I have little money.

It seems to me that more and more these car manufacturers are recalling cars back because of some sort of malfunction on their part.....>>>>>>>This is my idea on how to stop this from happening over and over>>>>>>>>I think since these manufacturers get by with everything, problem wise and price wise, we should have a senator bring a vote to the floor that everytime a car is recalled, that the owner of that car should receive half the value of that car paid to them>>>>>>>These manufacturers set a price range, and we (fools that we are) pay the price......>>>>>And with the price of cars that we have to pay, nothing should go wrong with them. Ever.....>>>>>This would help to prevent the manufacturers employees from screwing up to begin with....What do you think????????

I have a 95 Jeep Cherokee Sport. It has wayyyy more miles on it than it should and still runs well.... but the engine temperature gauge always says it's about to over heat.
It could be anything, but I figure it's either the thermostat or the radiator.
I'm afraid to get the car looked at cause I can't afford even a diagnostic test.
Can someone tell me if there's something I can check myself to see what the problem might be?
I've already spent way too much on wear and tear repairs, so if someone could point me in the right direction, that would be great.

My product manual for my 2001 Nissan Altima says I should use "at least" 87 for the car's fuel. Does this mean that I could use a higher octane like 89 or 93? If so, would I get better performance out of the car by using a higher fuel grade? Could it damage the car if I did this? And finally, is it worth the extra money to get a higher fuel grade?
