It depends on how you drive. If you mainly drive highways your brakes will last much longer than if you do a lot of stop and go driving. The pads have a wear sensor built in, so when the pad gets low it will give off a loud shrill sound when you lightly tap the brakes. This will let you know you need pads. The rear brakes usually last much longer than front pads.

Depends ENTIRELY on use. If you drive like an indy car racer, you need new brakes every race. If you drive normally you need new brakes every 30-60,000 miles. Find a mechanic you trust to SHOW YOU the brake pads & compare their thickness to the new ones...do some research on pad types, brakes & such if you want to...Get different opinions from different shops & believe who you trust. Don't fall for scare tactics & don't let them resurface your rotors...newer cars DO NOT NEED THIS DONE unless you've gouged out grooves because you wore COMPLETELY through your old pads...
Good luck!

brakes should be inspected at every major service and pads/linings changed when worn, there is often an alarm light when the pads are worn, your model may not have it. but linings/pads should never be allowed to be so worn as to cause metal to metal contact with the discs/drums.
Indicators are squealing brakes, lack of stoping power, loss of feel in the brake pedal.

ive seen brakes last up to 70000 but the average is probably 35000 all the one with higher milage were all properly lubed at the factory but most of the cars built theres no grease to be found at any of the contact lube points or hub to drum that also why drum rust to the hubs so if there lubed properly and you dont brake hard they can last a long time

It depends on usage the guy who does the oil change or the lubrication should check the pads every 6000 miles at least.
When the pads are worn they need to be replaced.
