I had this happen to me. The first time I paniced and took it to the dealer. It was my gas cap not being closed properly. It happened again about 70,000 miles later and it was an O-2 sensor that was down. I'd check the gas cap first. They charge around 50+ to reset it when it would go off on its own after a week or two.

if your check engine light came on after the first 500 miles, then it could be as simple as a reminder to take to dealer for a check up. it could also be more serious. take to your dealer for service right away. if you don't then you could void your warranty.

It could be just a sensor problem. Just take it in and have them check it out. It's probably nothing, but if it is, they have to fix it anyway free of charge.

If means they want you to bring it in to the dealer so they can make up something that is wrong to charge you for it. :)
