In the event the motor that powers the top fails, how do I latch it back into place until it can be repaired. Also, what type of cost can I expect to have the motor replaced (95 Firebird)?

I am not familiar with the Firebird, however, both of the convertibles I have owned had a release that disconnected the operator and allowed you to manually lift the top. It should be in your owners manual.

Best I can do:

I would not raise it and lower it because you are going to make or break something more then what is already wrong. Ask around because you can put a new top on it for $300 so the motor should not be that much. Just do not go to the dealership.

My Chrysler 95 Lebarron Convertibe's Top is always getting stuck, and yes it's hard to manually pull it up and down. You need usually 2 ppl to do it.
