My mother-in-law hit our car and there is about $1000 worth of damage. My father-in-law is dragging his feet paying us....he is saying "i'm not sure if I'm going through insurance or out-of-pocket." Basically he keeps flip-flopping back and forth.

I want to be fair to my wife because she is handling this, but I also want our car fixed. The accident happened almost 3 months ago and it is still not fixed, and he has not paid us. One other thing to add is they took on two mortgages....so they are a little tight right now...but really, that is a choice that he made...call me hard-hearted.

What can I do or say that is diplomatic that will get results, get the money for the repair, maintain my relationship with my wife, and move on with our lives.?

my uncle made a huge favor for his daughter coz she needs a car but she wasn't approved. she promised to pay the monthly dues. so the escalade was brought under my uncle's name but now he wants to transfer ownership to her name but the car hasn't been fully paid yet...can he do it? if not...is there a way to do it?
the reason is that his daughter has been giving him headaches and hasn't been paying for the car's monthly dues for 6 months now and since it's under my uncle's name, he can't do anything but pay for it to retain a good credit standing. he really wants his 30 year old daughter to be responsible ... pls help my uncle!!!
ps. is trade-in an option if this is not possible? how? thanks!!!

I am going to a out of state college in Philadelphia and bringing my father's car with insurance under my name. I am planning to work part-time or practice home-based business while attending college. What should I do with my driver's license and the plate? If I keep my current license and plate, will there be any problems working or doing business in Philadelphia?

I was vacuuming my car (passenger side) at the local service station, well away from any road or marked laneway, and was hit on the open passenger door by someone driving a large RV. The insurance company said I may absorb some or all of the blame because my passenger door was open. It was not in a laneway but off to the side at the service stations far edge - I was not blocking anyone. My car was not moving.

Is there any truth to this???? It seems incredible to me that someone can hit a parked car's door and not be at fault. Especially as I was well off to the side by the fence at the perimeter of the lot.

Any thoughts? I am from BC Canada and deal with ICBC.

I know my neighbours slashed my tyres, but do I need proof before telling the police? I'm thinking they won't do anything considering last time I reported about someone stealing my hub caps and even tho I gave them their license plate number. The only thing the cops know is that I reported some problems I had with my neighbours before. Would they use that or do I need some concrete evidence?

Anyone who's been thru this?

I recently got into an accident when I pulled out of a sidewalk parking space, and hit another car. The damage was pretty significant. We both pulled into a smaller street, and the other person got out of the car and kept telling me that it was my fault. He was walking back to his car, and I thought he was going to get his information, but he just closed the door and drove away. I wasn't able to get his license plate number or anything. What should I do?

My son was in an accident and all the police on the scene and police reports filed determined he was 100% not at fault. The insurance co. refuses to pay saying that police reports are only a "tool" in determining whos at fault. So we took them to small claims court to try to get the $1500 for our car the other guy totalled. The court was in our favor but the other guys ins. co. filed an appeal and its going to a higher court where his co. - State Farms lawyer (they had a lawyer go to small claims for them) says that we should get a lawyer (of course). Why would this go to a higher court? Wouldnt it just be a waste of their time? If the police AND the small claims court both side in OUR favor why is State Farm trying to appeal over a measily $1500?? Wont this be laughed out of court? Should we really get a lawyer or just rep. ourselves? This is getting stupid i could see if it were for thousands of dollars. Anyone got any ideas that would help? By the way State Farm SUCKS!!!!

I was involved in a rear end accident. And the person who was in the other car kept telling me she didnt want to make a claim. and so on and that i needed to pay for her car. We exchanged insurance info. and i proceeded with a police report and claimed on my insurance. She continued to cal repeatedly i have had 16 missed calls from her 9 within a 24 hour period of the accident. She has also called my house phone which doesnt have CallerID. so 16+. She is telling me that i need to help her out and pay half and giving me a sob story.
Our insurance told us not to pay her anything out of pocket.

BY THE WAY she told the autoshop that i was paying for her car so they went ahead and fixed it for her and now she cant get it out of the shop.

We live in michigan which is a no fault insurance state.

does anyone have any advice?

I live in Ontario. I'm basically wondering if they'll actually do a background check or if I can just give her the money to go pay it. On the ticket it says "he".

I am almost 40, have a spotless driving record, have the same car, haven't changed the policy, and haven't moved. So how can my insurance agent just up my rates all of the sudden and not give me an answer why. He just says that things change. Is there an industry standard or can agents just screw with us at will? I have been with this WELL known insurance company for 4 years. This isn't some guy working out of his garage. Any experts out there that can shed some light on this for me. I am shopping around for new insurance as i type.

A truck ran a red light and hit my car on the passenger side, then said that I ran the light! (my light was green the whole time!). The police officer said he cant accuse anyone of doing it because there were no witnesses but he said he's going to put his opinion in the report and that is that he thinks I'm telling the truth, he thinks the truck did run the light. I'm waiting on the report to go to the insurance company but I'm so nervous that this guy is going to get away with this and im not going to get a settlement for my car and back injury! Should I not be worrying about it? Any advice or opinions would be great! Thanks...

ok, so i was at my fault and we exchange all our information. when i looked at his, neither his insurance or registration was up to date but he assured me it was, well insurance wise. We waited for the police for an hour and couldn't wait any longer so we decided to just call each other. His mother calls and pushes me to do it outside of the insurance. I'm only 18 and my parents don't know much about this stuff since they don't speak English. so i agreed not knowing what to do. Well they got an estimate and it's about 2000 dollars, me or my parents cant afford that and I'm really regetting not taking it on insurance. i am wondering if its too late to file the accident because of the DMV 10 days thing. can someone please give me better advice?

I was served papers today to appear in small claims court regarding a car accident from over a year ago.

I was driving down a State Highway (Interstate 43) when my front wheel fell off the car (after having my car repaired earlier that day) and lost control of my vehicle. I drifted off to the right shoulder and struck a parked car. No one was in the car as it had been disabled and parked for several days, if not weeks!

I am now being sued for just over $4,500 which is what the owner's insurance company paid out. $4,500 was full NADA value of the car, however they did not take into account that the car had serious mechanical failure and over 150k miles!

Blue Book value is less than 1/2 the amount... Am I 100% at fault? Is it legal for the plantiff to leave their car parked on the side of the Interstate? Can I negotiate a lower amount??

Any help is much appreciated, and thank you in advance! Please feel free to leave any links or documentation that may help...

We have a friend who just got in an accident, uninsured unlisenced, but it wasnt his fault. Hes wondering if he will get in trouble if he calls in the claim and if he will have to show proof of license or insurance.

We (Me & my wife) met with a 3 car collision.
The traffic slowed down and came to a stop. I stopped my car too. The car (sedan) behind us failed to stop and push us into the pickup truck in front of us. I am quite sure i stopped when the truck in front of me stopped.

In the police statement the driver of the truck mentioned that he felt 2 taps. The police report was just based on his statement. There is no other proof mentioned in the report to say i am 100% at fault. The report didnt say anything about skid marks or any description of the accident scene. Because the police report said i was at fault, now my insurance company is saying i am at fault 100%.

I don't know what to do now. We really feel bad to pay for something that we have not done.

Please advice.
