I know my neighbours slashed my tyres, but do I need proof before telling the police? I'm thinking they won't do anything considering last time I reported about someone stealing my hub caps and even tho I gave them their license plate number. The only thing the cops know is that I reported some problems I had with my neighbours before. Would they use that or do I need some concrete evidence?

Anyone who's been thru this?

MAKE THE REPORT SO THAT THIS IS ON RECORD AND YES YOU WILL BE EVIDENCE OR A WITNESS TO PROVE THAT YOUR NEIGHBOR DID THIS BECAUSE AT THIS TIME IT WILL ONLY BE HIS WORD AGAINST YOURS.

GOOD LUCK

If you want to file a claim against your comprehensive coverage - you will have to file a police report - (the requirement is in most insurance policies). Go ahead and let the police know you think the neighbor did it - but if the neighbor denies it there is not much that can be done.

As far as a claim goes- the insurance company does not owe you a new set of tires. They will take betterment on the new tires.

For example: you have a set of tires that are rated for 60,000 miles - at the time they are slashed, you had gotten approximately 20,000 miles use out of them. Therefore, the insurance company owes you for the 40,000 miles you did not get out of the tires (not a brand new set of 60,000 mile tires b/c this would put you in a better position after the loss than you were in before).

You will have to keep the damaged tires for the insurance company to inspect. They don't have to be on the car- you can replace the tires and put the damaged ones in the garage.

The insurance company will take a tread depth measurement and will use that to determine the amount of betterment that is taken. Usually betterment is a % of the replacement cost. Then your deductible is subtracted from that amount.

Again you need to make a Police report, and also state whom are your suspects.

Concrete evidence or proof is needed.

No picture? No video? No witness?
No case.
Innocent until PROVEN guilty.
