He needs to call his insurance company immediately and file a claim.

If he has liability coverage only - that means that his insurance company will only be able to pay for the damage/injuries in the other car (and injuries to any passengers in his car). However, they will not be able to pay for any damage to your friends car.

He can go ahead and get a replacement car and take the damaged one off his policy and put the new one on.

If his car was towed - the tow company is going to charge to tow the car and to store it - in my area, storage fees are 20-25 per day. These can add up quickly.

If your friend wants to keep the damaged car, he will need to pay the tow charge and per day storage fees (also, some tow companies had clean up, administration fees too). Then move the car to his home or other location that will not charge storage.

If your friend does not want the car - most likely, the tow company will be willing to let him sign the title over to them in exchange for the tow/storage fees. That way, he signs the car over but does not have to pay anything.

Your friend will need to let his insurance company know what he did with the car. There is a good chance they will want to get photos of it for their file (especially if the other driver is claiming injuries).

Your friend will also need to cooperate with his insurance company in the investigation of the claim. That means, returning their phone calls and giving a recorded statement about what happened. If, in the future, he gets served legal papers, he should call his insurance company immediately - the insurance company will hire an attorney to defend him but has a limited time to get an answer on file and the clock starts running when he gets served.

Your friend should also ask the adjuster any questions he has. That's what we are there for. Adjuster's understand that most people have never been in an accident before and insurance can be complicated to some one who is not dealing with it every day. There is no such thing as a dumb question. So ask the adjuster what ever questions he has.

what's done is done...he either will need to fix his car or buy another, both on his own dime. That's the risk of an insurance policy like that. Hopefully his insurance rates won't jump up too high, but let him know that may happen.

1. HOPE THAT HE HAS ENOUGH COVERAGE FOR BOTH THE VEHICLE THAT HE HIT AND THE PERSON AS WELL.

2. WAIT AND SEE WHAT THIS IS GOING TO COST HIM IN FINES AND OR COURT.

3. DON'T BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE JUST YET.

4. GO AND SEE A DOCTOR JUST IN CASE.

5. JUST WAIT.

GOOD LUCK
