I got into a car accident recently. No injuries thankfully. The car damage will be roughly about $3000 (The appraiser has not yet sent me the estimate). The car is not drivable, so I am taking the bus/metro. I also went to the doctor for a checkup (which cost me my basic co-pay).

The adjuster called me and said they will refund $500 towards my travel/medical expenses. I said fine. Today, I got a letter from them saying I have to fill a "Release of All claims" form.

The form basically mentions that they will pay me $500 and says that I will not hold the insurance company or the insured liable for any more claims. Is this a standard procedure? It does not even talk about the additional expenses (approx $3000) which will be towards car-repair.

Please advise. What should I do? It is a typical auto insrance claim with no injuries. Why are they making me sign such a Release of Claims form? Should the form mention about the car-repair expenses also?

I already had an adjuster look at the vehicle and said damage $6800 $2500 is parts $3300 is labour. I cant afford it. No one was charged I was making a left at the advanced green and was no longer in the middle of the intersection but at the end. (Basicly the front part of my car made it not the back) when my car was hit in the rear. Because the lady jumped the light even though she saw me. All she had to do was take a deep breath and then go. None of us was charged but she should have waited not even half a second for me to have completed my turn instead of just seeing a green light and going just because it's green right into my vehicle so I need to sell my car and I dont know where to start help?

Although the accident is not my fault I was making a left at the advanced flashing green light; and I was no longer in the intersection when the other driver jump the green light and rear ended my vehicle. Now apparently if you make any left and there is an accident you are at fault but..I'm waiting to hear back from insurance to find out whether they will go 50/50 with me or I take a loss. The damages are $2500 and labour $3200. I cant afford this and I wanted to sell my vehicle as is but I dont know where to start.

I have always been curious as to how the license plate system works in the USA? What about if you own multiple cars? I have heard that the plate is linked to the driver not the car, is that true? Also what sort of roadworthiness tests do you have in the USA? We in the UK have what we call an MOT where the brakes, steering, safety features, lighting and emissions get tested on an annual basis, does the USA have anything like that?

My wife and myself had an accident a couple of months ago and we are now finished with treatment. We both recieved whiplash , neck pain , and lower back pain. We both still have some days, where our necks feel tight and some lower back pain. Will the adjuster just give us money for pain and suffering or do we have to ask for it ? Do you still get paid for your medical bills if your health insurance has already paid the bills ?? If, you have had a meeting/phone call with an adjuster .. please let me know how easy/hard that was. I hear you get about 2 x 3 times what you medical bills were .... is that right.

Well thanks for reading and thanks for the answer.

My in-laws were involved in a car accident (not their fault) and now the other insurance company says the car is a total loss but the amount they say the will pay is not even enough to pay what they owe on it. Is that allowed? If so should their full coverage from their insurance not have to pay the difference? It seems that is the point of insurance. Now they will be stuck paying for a car they dont have and no money to replace it.

I am a pretty new driver (been driving for 2 years and im 19 years old).I recently got a speeding ticket for going 15 over. There were no points taken so I thought that my insurance would not go up, and that taking it to court would only lesson the cost of the ticket which was only 50$ so i just paid it. Now I am unsure if my insurance will increase. I never signed anything pleaing guilty, i was given the paper with my ticket but when I paid they never asked to to sign anything. So I am wondering is there any way that maybe i could still go to court and get the ticket taken off my record? I don't care about getting my 50$ back. Or if it will even raise my insurance at all.

So I need to register my car this month, but I dont have insurance anymore. Things got tough and it was either rent or car insurance, I choose to have a roof over my head instead. I cant afford to pay the $1200 for my insurance right now.
I do however, still have the paper insurance card that says im valid till Feb. '07. I have to send a copy of this in as well as smog check to register for this year.
Does anyone know if they actually check for valid insurance? ie: call the insurance or check up on it to make sure its still good? Im assuming *hoping* that that would be waaaaay too much work for them to check every single person who's registration needs to be mailed in. But hey, you never know.
I do know that as of 2007, the DMV has to notify that I dont have current insurance though so.....
HELP! thanks. :)
& I know that driving with out insurance is one of the most stupid things I can do, I know this. and im doing all I can to save money to pay for it. Liablity at least.

My son rolled into a car at a red light leaving a small smudge mark...the police was called and they said the damage was under $50 and the other driver opted not to have an accident report filed because he was going to receive a ticket for his tags and registration being expired for 2 months...now this person is telling me that the damage was underestimated and his estimate is $800...i want to pay for damages i am responsible for, but it doesn't seem fair that this guy opted for no accident report to get out of a ticket and fines and has jacked the price way up....if i turn it into my ins my premiums will go up.....does he have legal rights if he was driving a vehicle that wasn't legally supposed to be on the road????...and should i offer him what the officer said $100 and just let him take me to small claims court..... thank you for your help

In April my younger brother bumped into a police car whilst waiting at some traffic lights. They were both stationary and he took his foot off the brake and rolled into them. The copper went mad at him and then took his details but stated that as NO DAMAGE WAS CAUSED it was not a massive deal. A month later he got a letter saying no further action would be needed but be more careful in the future.
7 months later he gets a call from his insurance company telling him the police have put in a claim against him. This is for damage to the offside rear.
A) The police themselves stated there was no damage
B) He did not hit the offside rear
C) It was 7 months ago!

It seems to me that they have reversed into something and have decided to pass blame to somebody else.
Can they really get away with this?? How can you argue against the police??
