As long as the vehicle is repairable (not totaled), your insurance company will cut a check for the cost of the repair minus your deductible.
Example: 3000 in damages - 250 deductible = 2750
They would cut a check to the body shop for 2750.
Also, at most companies, 100 is the minumum deductible you can carry on collision (not 250) and you can choose to not even have a deductible on comprehensive (this is called "actual cash value"). So you might want to check with you agent if you're interested in a lower deductible.

You don't have to 'pay' anything. Your $250.00 deductible is the amount that is 'deducted' from your settlement amount. If you repair the car you are expected to pay the $250.00 to the repairer as this is your portion of the expense.
PS - you are not required to repair your car by the insurance company though they ARE required to protect the lein holder if there is one. Therefore they may make the check payable to you and the leinholder. If you own it, the money is all yours. Insurer may drop coverage unless you do the repairs.

If your deductible is $250, then that's what you'll pay.
