Car Makes - March 2007

I changed my alternator only after 1 1/2 years of replacing it. When I put in the new one, the battery was not being charged. The guys at Advanced Auto asked me if it was a Ford. I said yes, and he told me that I could have blown the fuse. If it is the Primary battery fuse, how do I know if it is blown?? Please help, I can't drive it anywhere to have someone do it.

I am thinking about buying an 07 wrangler. I am not sure of the differences in performance between the manual and auto transmission. I plan to drive mainly on the road and do some offroading. However, I will not be climbing the Rubicon trail anytime soon. So, what are the off roading benefits of a manual transmission? And could an auto transmission provide the same relative performance? Or would I be crazy to offroad with an auto transmission?

Why do BMW fans compare a v10 engine to a v8 engine. Even then, a v8 Mercedes and Porsche engine preform similar to the bigger BMW engine. So when Mercedes makes their E 55 in a 10 cylinder what then for BMW owners. A slower M 5 & M 6. Also, why does Mercedes Benz have more GT and Formula 1 victories than BMW?

I am having trouble finding anything like it to compare it to. It has been sitting out side for a few years but has all original parts that would be good for someone trying to rebuild one. It ran good before we parked it. It is by no means a rust bucket. The fenders are rusting from sitting outside. I just need an idea where to start

Its making a squeaking sound...only when it hasn't been running for a few minutes. Once I get going its fine but its really annoying. Im trying to save as much money as I can so im definiteley fixing it myself. Can I replace the bearing or do I need to replace the power steering pump itself....what are my options? Well what it is I have a Vauxhall Corsa r reg petrol and it overheats! I have checked the oil and the water and everything but it just keeps on overheating - oh yeah and the car had not been run for about a year so please can you suggest some methods to get it running again! It only done 45000 miles! When i opened the oil cap the oil was bubbling. please help!

I have a major issue. I had to jumpstart my car recently due to a dead battery, and I connected the cables in the front (not directly on the battery). Now, I have this error that says "CODE" on my radio and have I have the radio code (and is correct and verified), but it won't work. I have entered it up 3 times, waited (with the ignition on) and rentered and still a NO GO. Dealer wants $110/hour to fix this.

I was told to locate the battery on my car and then if i disconnect the battery for 15-30 min. it will reprogram itself allowing me to enter code and accept it. My questions are:

1-Does anyone know location of battery for a 1995 BMW 540i? I see no handles to pull in my backseat.

2-Does anyone know another way to resolve a CODE error on your radio?

I have no power steering. I've used Stop-X ... nothing. I noticed some type of assembly on the firewall leaking the power steering fluid. Looks like a solenoid of some type. Any ideas? Thanx.

My father wants a Mercedes sedan. I have a 1990 300E that is like new (80K original miles) and has been fabulous. But he wants something newer. Consumer Reports gives all the new models such bad reviews that I hate to get him into a problem car. Our local Mercedes dealer manager says stay away from the ones 2000 and newer. So late 90's???
