Get a test on the battery, altenator, and started before spending all that money. Also I had a problem with my 01 silverado the "honeycombs" in the catalytic converter were full of trash and I got them cut out and my truck ran fine ever since except for my fuel pump i had to replace.

Your local mechanic is just 'busting your chops',If the engine spins over, but no start.I would remove the ignition module at base of the coil pack. You can have it tested at your local Auto Zone Parts Store for free. This is a common no start condition with most GM's

Both of the things you are stating here do not exist. Does your car crank, but not fire. If it does this, check for spark output and fuel pressure. If it has both of these, check the PCM and related modules for codes stored especially anti-theft codes. These cars had tons of trouble with ignition switches dropping voltage inside that would not enable certain circuits. If does not crank, you might have the problem stated with the switch or battery/starter problems. You need diagnosis or a better question to help me help you. Good luck.

Either the mechanic is pulling your leg, or your trying to pull ours.
