To make this as brief as possible: College student, student teaching next semester and need a car. Mom and I don't have a lot of money to spend on it. Don't want a loan.

With that out of the way, I need to find the cheapest car (that's cheapest to insure) as possible. I wish I had more money to spend, but I don't. I don't want to sacrifice safety and reliability to save money, but I don't want to go broke to get it either.

What are some factors that play into a car being cheap to insure (ie: 4 door, airbags)? What helps make insurance more affordable (ie: best years, specific makes or models (if you know any), colors, features, etc)?

Do you have any specific cars (or car companies) in mind?

If you live in the Philadelphia area, do you have any specific dealerships in mind that I should check out? (I don't want to buy from a random individual on the street).

If I buy a car out of state (NJ, DE) is it difficult to get it insured, registered, etc in PA?

Thanks!

I am 29 and single. I desperately need a new car, since my Subaru is getting too costly to fix. I will buy a car, not lease since I plan to have New Car for the long haul.

I do not belong to a credit union, nor have I ever gotten a loan from a bank, but I do have squeaky-clean credit.

What are my options for financing a new car? More specifically, what are my BEST options? What's going to be worth it in the long-run--financing from the car co., my bank, or joining a credit union (and if so, how the heck do I join a credit union?). Borrowing money from family is NOT an option because they will screw me over--I know from the School of Hard Knocks.

Can I use my Subaru as a down payment? Can I pay tax, title and license as part of the overall package?

Thanks in advance for your insights and stories!

Ok an automotive consultant is someone who has access to all dealerships and can find you the exact car you want(good credit or bad credit). He pulls your credit (so there are no surprises) and searches for the car and does all the negotiations with the dealership so you won't have to do any haggleing; all you have to do is test drive the car and sign the contract. Does $199-$249 sound like its worth it?

I have a car with a lot of mechanical issues (2002 Olds, Alero with 104,393 miles on it). Have already spent over $2000 this year in repairs and want to get rid of it, however I would rather sell it than surrender it to bank if possible. Only issue is that I doubt I can get what I owe for it (less than $3000). Is there a way I can sell it with balance owed or bank lien on it and pay off balance myself?

I recently bought an expensive vehicle (Audi TT) and the sales guy was pretty laid back and really didn't put any extra effort in selling the vehicle to me. He told me it was my responsibility to order things the car dealer owed me and then lied later on that he never said that when his manager asked. My battery went dead in a month of owning it and they tried saying I did something to it. They replaced it for me and claimed they were more than generous to me. The manager at one point asked what is a girl from (the town I live in) buying a car from us. Yes, I live in the country but that is discriminating even to say that. This morning the heated seats didn't work and I need to get it fixed but don't want to deal with them. What would you do in this situation?

My 1998 Maxima is very well maintained at 125,000 miles, I would trade that and add $2500 to get in return a 1999 Pathfinder with only 75,000. Both cars have been in our family since the beginning so I know they have been taken good care of. Im just not sure if I want to pull the trigger and make the deal. Thanks for your help.

My family found out that I financed a bike for a friend and wants me to get rid of it to him because they said if he messes up with payments or gets into trouble, I'm responsible which I know, but took the risk. I need to change the title to his name but the bank holds the title. He recently came to the states and he has no credit whatsoever so him getting a loan is out of the question. Is there another way to put my family at ease via a contract saying I'll transfer the bike to him and if he defaults on payments, he is obligated to pay me and I don't hold responsibilty for the bike? Or is there a way to transfer the title to his name but at the same time, I continue to finance the bike? I trust the guy that's why I took the risk and he's on time with his payments but my family doesn't care. Need help and solutions asap! Thanks!

First I would like to say that I am fully capable of paying for the car, insurance, and gas on my own. However my parents will not let me buy a car. I was wondering if there is any way in pennsylvania that a 16 year old can legally own his own car. thanks.

I need one large enough for a large dog to fit comfortably in the back.

i was wonderin if you need a dealership license to open a used car lot, if its one of those buy here pay here things i didnt think you did. I was told that you can have a certain amount of cars on the lot before you need one but if you have over x amount then you do, how does all that work. I plan on opening a car lot and i would like some information about it because i have alot of questions. And if you do need a dealership liecense where would you go to get one in north carolina, where would you go to get the dealer tags and all that other good stuff to, thanx everyone.

My husband and I bought a 2007 Chrysler 300C SRT Design Group yesterday. We paid cash for it. When they were getting it ready they damaged it! YES...they pushed in the side panel ON THE BODY SEAM. They came in and told us what happened and told us we can drive our trade in home and they would fix the car like new and get it back to us ASAP. We have serious concerns after giving them $40,000 and having never drove the car ( other then test drive) are now receiving a damaged car, albeit, repaired. We had to ask for a loaner and they never offered to get us a replacement car or anything like that. What would you do?
As we think more and more about this, we think that they should get us a car to replace this one. We bought a NEW NOT DAMAGED AND REPAIRED car...shouldnt that be what we get? This car is hard to find, not so hard that they couldnt find one, just not all over the place. It is loaded up with everything except the rear assist. I would appreciate serious answers please.

My partner is going to buy a classic car. He knows that the older the car the less road tax he will pay, but not exactly how much. Is there a site that will give me this information, or is there anyone out there that can tell me?. Thankyou in advance

Ok, so I put a down payment of $2,500.00 in a check form, on a car that's under my soon to be ex-husband's name, did a stop payment on the check, and now the dealer is calling my ex-husband saying that if I, myself don't come up with the $2,500.00 by Monday, they can have me arrested. Is this true? Even if the car isn't under my name?

I put deposit down because dealer offered the best deal and promised me that i can get the car within a week. But they are keep changing the date and I can't deal with them anymore so I wanted to cancel the purchase but they wouldn't let me have the deposit back, they are keep saying they are not giving me the money back. I did not get a vin number because the car was not located in the store at the time of signing the paper. HOWEVER, they never gave me a copy of papers that I signed, only thing they gave me is a receipt of deposit. I paid deposit in cash.. Car is not in the store yet because it's coming from different state. This dealership is located in Mass. am I gonna be able to get the deposit back?.. I put too much deposit, so I can't just lose that money..
