When you go to pay taxes on a vehicle you just purchased from a private party, do you pay based on the price you bought it for or based on the year of the vehicle?

I got my car, brand new, in October of 2005 when I was 18 years old - paid in cash, no loan. I am 20 years old now and I really do love my car, but I'm wondering when the best time to trade it in is? The car is an 05 Haundai Elentra (I hope I spelled that correctly). I've been very good with oil changes and such.

I know that as soon as I start driving it, the value goes down a lot!

I'm thinking that I may want to keep the car for a total of 5 years (3 more years). Will the value go down much between now and two or three years down the road? (I mean, granted I continue to up keep the car and have no accidents) ??

Any info on this would be great. Thanks!!

Hey there, I need a first car and I am already a decent driver so thats ok. Can't be more then about $8000. It doesn't matter if it is a 2 door or 4, I just want to be able to haul my friends around. I've been looking at the Nissan 300ZX twin turbo cars but they don't have back seats and the 2+2's only have 222 hp. I would like to have something with around 280hp and be able to haul my friends around when needed.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

We listed our car for $5200 and he talked us all the way down to $4300. We shook and agreed on that. Right before he gave us the money for the car he mentioned that the bank didn't give him the full amount so he was only giving us $4100. FINE. But now, 5 minutes after he drove off with the car he said the check engine light came on. It's never come on before and it drove perfect when I drove 1 hour to meet him. So now he's wanting us to do something about that, pay for repairs and such. What would you do? We're not trying to scam him, however it seems a little "convenient" that the check engine light suddenly came on.

When you go to the dealer and buy a car they always ask for a deposit but is it really necessary since you're signing a piece of paper that binds you to buying the car? they always say it's to hold the car but if I sign a piece of paper saying that I'm purchasing this car is it just to keep my money incase I back out within the 3 day period? Do I really have to leave a deposit?

I have searched ebay and most of those online sites as well as junkyards and classifieds. This is a last hope to find my car. I want a 1967 Chevy Impala 4 door. The car doesnt have to be running in fact I would really just like to have a shell. Of course if the guts are intact thats a plus too but I really cannot find this car anywhere. I have a car that i financed about a year and a half ago...i hate it!! its a 2 door coupe with crank windows and manual lock, i hate the way it drives for i am a RWD kinda girl. I would put up with it, except im pregnant now and its SOOOOO hard to get in and out of and its goign to suck ttying to get a baby out of the back seat and its impossible to open the door and windows on the passenger side....but i still owe alot oon my loan...is there anyway to get a dealership to take my car and my excisting loan if i buy a different car, and take a new loan?

I bought a 2000 honda prelude from a very small used car dealership. I signed the bill of sale papers only. They told me to come back in three days to sign the loan papers. I wrote two checks for the down payment, as well. The next day, I tried to start up the car, it wouldn't start. It isn't the battery, already tried to jump start it. I called the dealership, talked to the salesman who sold me the car, he said it just needed a jump, I then told him, already tried it, so now I just want them to tow it back to their dealership and I wanted out of buying the car. He then put his manager on the line, I told him the same, then his tone changed, he said "I'm too busy to deal with this right now." I told him to call me when they are towing it so i can give them the key. This went on for weeks, they still haven't picked it up. It's a $8100 car, is it stolen? Is that why they aren't picking it up? I talk to the sales guy every week, and he keeps on saying he'll call me back, which he doesn't.
